AUSTIN, Texas -- An Under Armour High School All-American and international standout will join Texas Volleyball for the 2014 season, head coach Jerritt Elliott announced today. Libero Cat McCoy joins the Longhorns from Southlake, Texas, while middle blocker Mirta (MEER-tah) Baselovic (BASS-uh-lo-vich) hails from Croatia.

"We're very excited to have Cat and Mirta join the UT family," Elliott said. "These two players will continue our tradition of not only bringing great athletes to Texas, but also exceptional student-athletes that can uphold our standards of academic excellence. Cat and Mirta are two very talented athletes that will be great players for the future of our program."

A member of the 2013 USA Youth National Team, the 5-7 McCoy was named an Under Armour High School All-American First Team honoree last week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. McCoy's junior year accolades last season at Southlake Carroll included Texas 5A District and Area Championships, and she was named the All-District Defensive MVP. One of Volleyball Magazine's Girls 30 Underclassmen to Watch, McCoy has led the Lady Dragons to a 44-1 record this season that includes a perfect 14-0 mark in district play.

On the club scene McCoy plays for the Texas Advantage (TAV) 17 Black, the gold medalists at both the Show Me and Lonestar National Qualifiers this year. The TAV 17 Black is the reigning USAV 17 Open National Champion where McCoy was also named to the all-tournament team.

"We were immediately drawn to Cat early on because of her personality; she's feisty, competitive and extremely driven. Cat continues to do a lot of work on her own, and that is a testament to her commitment to the game. Fortunately, through both her high school and club programs, she's played at a very high level for quite some time, and this experience should prove useful as she makes the transition to the next level," Elliott said.

Baselovic's accomplishments on the international scene include a gold medal at the 2009 Middle European Volleyball Zonal Association (MEVZA) and bronze at the 2010 Alpe-Andria Tournaments. A three-year member of the Croatian Junior National Team (2011-13), the 6-3 Baselovic saw playing time at the qualification tournament for the 2012 European Championship in Bulgaria before joining the 2013 Croatian Senior National Team that won bronze in Turkey at this year's Mediterranean Games.

"Mirta is a very smooth and fluid player. Right now she's playing as a middle blocker, but she also has a great feel for the ball and a solid passing platform. We will see when she arrives if she can add more skills to our program than just in the middle blocking position," Elliott said. "Coming from a different country is always a challenge, and it will be our responsibility to help Mirta become acclimated to Texas. She'll be enrolling in January, and that will allow her extra time to get stronger and used to our system."
