There isn't another situation in the country like this one where the state school is in a perceived "weaker" conference and doesn't play the in state rival. I'm fine with that as it makes the situation "unique" and grows a hatred which quite frankly, was fading over the last dozen years.
Long term success or failure at UT will be determined by the new regime, not if Texas beats A&M on the field. If Clemson beat South Carolina in the past, it simply didn't matter until Clemson had turned itself into a national contender, now it's fun for the fanbase, but potentially derails Clemson from a final 4 berth if they lose.
The ultimate matchup would be UT vs A&M in a playoff game which would guarantee both teams are good at the time and would have more hype than any game in the history of the series.
The goal is to have the program energized under Strong and become national contenders, NOT to schedule a derailer type game so that people will have their Thanksgiving be more interesting. Hell, if UT is undefeated coming into Thanksgiving, wouldn't a matchup vs TCU or TT hold everyone's attention?
I don't miss Arkansas or A&M and simply don't believe UT should give either a chance to stick their chest out until national implications or involved. The landscape of college football has changed and look forward to the day when UT kicks the Aggies a$$ in a game that matters. Until then, I will enjoy playing OU, BYU, UCLA & Baylor and could care less about where A&M is at in the standings of the SEC West.
