Just saying if the schools played,  tonights game could actually help Texas...but they don't so no matter what happens aggy won the week  nationally, but more importantly they probably win locally. LHN is hurting Texas more than helping.

They beat a top 10 team (or what was supposed to be a top 10 team). We'll beat North Texas. Can't do anything but play your schedule.

Who will be talking about Aggy beating Sam Houston?

I understand that, and I understand that there are a lot of folks that don't want to play aggy. I am not one of them. I think it is dumb to not play an in state rival. Texas vs OU is great, they at least have our respect...aggy....that aggy game is fun...it's HATE...I miss it.

Honestly, the aggie game was FUN but I never HATED the goofy sumbitches until they deceitfully bailed on the Big 12.  I always rooted for aggie until we played them.  Rarely did the game mean much because neither team was ever good at the same time.  It was just for braggin' rights.

It never had the red hot HATE that Texans have for the dirt burglars.  Has that changed?  You betcha.  I actually think the rivalry can be better now that we're in different conferences, ala FSU vs UF, Clemson vs USCe, UGa vs Ga Tech, etc.

The game will be back someday when the higher ups put aside their egos.  Both schools are leaving too much damn money on the table by NOT playing it.

It is dumb not to play. But that's not on us, that's on them. THEY left OUR schedule, we didn't leave theirs.

But the problem here is how they left, with full finger in the air at Texas and the Big 12, but particularly Texas. They literally blamed everything on Texas. LHN. Conference sharing (though they voted in favor of the very thing they professed to oppose). Wet turf. Longhorn Mafia. You name it, they accused it. It was pathetic and embarrassing.

You don't just go crawl right back into bed with that, IMO.

If you run back into their arms now, we deserve all the disrespect they showed then and will no doubt show after that.

This great post sir

There isn't another situation in the country like this one where the state school is in a perceived "weaker" conference and doesn't play the in state rival. I'm fine with that as it makes the situation "unique" and grows a hatred which quite frankly, was fading over the last dozen years.

Long term success or failure at UT will be determined by the new regime, not if Texas beats A&M on the field. If Clemson beat South Carolina in the past, it simply didn't matter until Clemson had turned itself into a national contender, now it's fun for the fanbase, but potentially derails Clemson from a final 4 berth if they lose.

The ultimate matchup would be UT vs A&M in a playoff game which would guarantee both teams are good at the time and would have more hype than any game in the history of the series.

The goal is to have the program energized under Strong and become national contenders, NOT to schedule a derailer type game so that people will have their Thanksgiving be more interesting. Hell, if UT is undefeated coming into Thanksgiving, wouldn't a matchup vs TCU or TT hold everyone's attention?

I don't miss Arkansas or A&M and simply don't believe UT should give either a chance to stick their chest out until national implications or involved. The landscape of college football has changed and look forward to the day when UT kicks the Aggies a$$ in a game that matters. Until then, I will enjoy playing OU, BYU, UCLA & Baylor and could care less about where A&M is at in the standings of the SEC West.

IMO, UT and the Big 12 should forgo playing on Thanksgiving any longer - regardless of opponent.  The NFL has given CFB the proverbial middle finger by playing 3 games on Turkey Day.  They own a much greater share of the national audience, so it's foolish to continue fighting for a meager share of the attention.

My two cents.

Agree completely with your previous post, J.B., that the UT/AM rivalry would be even better now, but don't think the T-Day game should be cancelled just because it's no longer the Ag's we play.

Many of us prefer college football to the play-for-pay leagues.  The game still gives us a heads-up on our college competitors and lets us showcase our talent for prospective recruits.  I would bet that you don't get off the road you're on just because someone gives you the bird, or you would go nowhere...at least I wouldn't get very far. LOL

No, I don't. But you don't let your wife or relative leave you while flipping you the bird, either. Now do you?

The guy on the freeway, I could care less about.

Awesome of you to work in the word "landscape" into your post. Give points to Coal Harbour!

Really like your posts most of the time, Sir Horn, but not sure about your point this time.  Are you saying that the NFL is like a relative of ours?  As far as the wife or relative goes tho, "Thank God and Greyhound..."  I just don't see the connection.  The NFL is like the guy on the freeway to me, but I am open to enlightenment.

Think I got it now.  Re-read YOUR post.  You're talking about the aggys, I was talking about the NFL.

See your point, but we did a fair amount of finger waving good-bye to them, too.  I still believe it would be in both our interest to put aside sensitive feelings and quit being a dog barking behind a fence.  Settle it on the football field where it counts.
