Sumlin has lost control

While I'm not happy with the arrest at all I'm not sure that hill getting arrested for PI is on sumlin. I could maybe see your point on weed but not on a PI.

Was it Mack's fault when connor wood got his PI?

Of course Sumlin gets some of the blame. After about the 3rd arrest, his players should know better. Drop the hammer and these problems will be minimized. Of course Sumlin can't completely control the actions of his players, but you can take actions to disincentivize this type of behavior.

Fair point.

I look at a PI (and passing out outside of a bar) as being a lack of individual control. Not necessarily a lack of institutional control.

This doesn't bother me nearly as much as Claibornes repeated offenses do. This is typical college student stupidity.

It wouldn't bother me either if it was the first problem. The fact that there's been several problems this offseason, exacerbates this specific incident.

Sure. And I think we are looking at the same concerns but in a different way.

Two arrests from Claiborne indicates that something programmatically might be going on because obviously he didn't feel any level of meaningful consequence from the first transgression (despite being suspended for the bowl game).

Maybe it's naive but this PI doesn't bother me all that much. Of course I wish it hadn't happened, but this is more in line with college student stupidity than programmatic issues.

As long as Sumlin goes 8-4 and gets the team a bid in a chicken sandwich bowl no aggy is going ever to complain about player arrests.

It doesn't reflect well on the kid, and with another incident it is more awkward for the coach and school, it's an SEC school with new considerations and new gadgets. We have a coaching staff with a different agenda, but he's winnowing it out. Strong is having to take care of what was here before, but it was here. I don't know that their program isn't now trying to be more like Mack's,, so maybe it's a lessenging of control and a different philosophy more than anything else. Regardless, these incidents can only help UT i recruiting with what else goes on and will keep ocurring there. Kids and parents that are more focued on Charlie's way of things, but may be on the fence, see this and it can only help. Their anti-recruiting is a win-win for UT as long as they stay the course.

Or, it seems that way.

Remember this is College Station, I can guarantee Austin pd is more lenient when they see a drunk dude on the streets. Hes a college kid and college kids love to get drunk

You know since this is aggy it isn't going end well. The players obviously have no concern Sumlin is going to try to crack down and do anything to them. You can pretty much bet money they will take things too far and something really bad is going to happen before anything changes over there.

Too much rationalization in this thread.

Things are adding up for aggy.

Good point, and if they win anything at all with these kind of guys increasing the silly behavior, it wil take longer, like here. I hope so for Texas, and although it always sucks to see lower expectations of behavior on an institutional level where kids are concerned, no matter the school, if they let it happen I can't feel too bad about it helping Texas in the long run. The Horn's journey into that land of the near-slippery slope helped pave the way for this, so maybe Mack helps on his way out and the Horns keep letting them play catch up games.

I remember when the ags made fun of Mack for 1) recruiting well, 2) not being able to win titles and 3) his arrest record. Sumlin has become Mack without the class, integrity and championship.

This whole thread makes us sound like aggies. Let's please stop posting about every negative thing that happens in college station, especially when it involves unfortunate legal problems for 18-22 year old kids.

...thread title, is petty over sensationalism...

"utisdabomb12" i love you my pal... but somehow i highly doubt that coach sumlin was the one responsible as per dropping this (19 year old kid) off to that bar. the one aspect as per this most despicable episode upon my opinion is "why in the world was a 19 yo kid found passed out lying in a planter with rocks at a nightclub at 3:am in the morning"? this is the most profound aspect of this incident that simply sickens my stomach.

where were his friends vs pals? i simply refuse to believe that a (19 yo) quarterback as per a high profile public university such as a&m, would go out alone and drink himself into a stupor and pass out... something is incredibly wrong here!

i for one, can only imagine that profound hurt and shock that his parents and family must be feeling right now... the word "furious" simply would not be enough!

everyone, that patronizes this great website at some point or another "get's it"... university of texas vs a&m are virtual "arch enemies". nonetheless, when it comes to our "kids"... please allow for us to display a bit more courtesy as well as respect. for this is the primary reason that i started to patronize "horn sports" in the first place... for surely, we are much better than this.
