Rumph gone?

I say bump up his salary and give him more responsibilities if that's what he wants. This is a coach Texas could not afford to lose, especially to Florida if Texas still wants to keep that pipeline.
You really believe that?

Strong has developed and worked the Florida pipeline for years, too. Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to lose Rumph. But, at the end of the day he's still just a position coach.

I believe it could take a hit, not necessarily disappear.

Obviously the move to FL is something coach Rumph is considering or they would have already announced otherwise.  Hope he stays but in the end you can't fault him if he does what he thinks is best for his family.  I'm sure both coach Strong and coach Bedford already have a standby list of potential replacements if that's the case.  The biggest issue is the impact to current players and recruiting.  If he is going to leave this is probably the best time.  The players have all Spring and Fall to get used to a new position coach and the new coach has a full year to build new recruiting relationships.

Probably a "best practice" these days to always have a short list of coaches in mind for all staff positions.

I'd have staff assistance to monitor an ongoing season and identify replacements should any coach feel the need to resign and look elsewhere after that particular season. My guess is that is a practice.

The bum thing about this kind of move is that it would come after just the first year of a new program.

I have the principle in mind that a 3-year or so commitment is the right way to go in the business.

If a coach takes on a program of this magnitude, those investing in the program as assistants from the beginning are really hired for more than just that season or the hire doesn't make sense anymore than a new head coach leaving after one season. That's probably happened.

I absolutely agree with your post, but unfortunately, there's generally no sense of loyalty these days.  I'm NOT saying Coach Rumph hasn't been loyal, either to Strong or UT.  What I am saying is, if he's not contractually bound, he can be expected, when push comes to shove, to do what he wants, not what you, or me, or Coach Strong, or anybody else wants him to do.  I like the heck out of Coach Rumph and what he's done in his short time on the forty acres, but if his heart isn't in the place, he should move, to Gainesville or wherever, and Strong should bring in somebody who wants to work for UT.  I might be wrong in this, but I see every minute that there's no announcement as encouraging.  I think if Rumph was committed to moving to UF, the American Statesman, A.P., one of the services, or somebody with a lot more credibility than Thayer Evans would have already posted something.

Nobody got lied to - as of yesterday Rumph hadn't accepted - which is what Strong allegedly told Lampkin/Charles.

They need to see if they can talk to Brick Haley at LSU.  Haley has an autistic son and was apparently unwilling to go to College Station because they didn't have appropriate facilities for his sons treatment.  I wonder if Austin would be able to provide the care for his son that he currently has at LSU.

My call went to VM......obviously he doesn't know "who i am"

"DONT YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!?!"
