Jim Harbaugh: Why would he leave SF for Texas?

He is not fond of ownership at 49rs, we pay well, long term home.
There is nothing to support this. The best I can find is he did not sign a 2 year extension before the season.

...who cares why, just get him quickly before something strange happens...

Take it from someone who has lived both places.

We have much better Mexican food in Austin.

This alone is enough.

Carne asada FTW!

It worked for Dallas when they wanted Jimmy Johnson (Mi Cocina).

Please remove all NFL coaches who are in good standing with their team from consideration for the UT job. I like reading "sources" as much as the next guy, but at some point, logic and common sense are needed.

Why exclude nfl coaches? The highest paid nfl coach makes $8 mil, which is about what the next Texas coach will make.

They will the top dog at Texas. In the nfl their roster is dictated to them. They also have two levels of micromanagers above them. At Texas, management is completely hands off.

According to Forbes, Harbaugh makes $5 million a year, and California has that Millionaire Tax Law..Incomes over $1 million are taxed at 10.3%, and including federal taxes, he is looking at an effective tax rate of 33%.

Texas has not state income taxes so he gets an extra $500k a year with everything being equal. Now let's say Texas ups his salary to $7 million a year.

Plus there is this in the Dallas Morning News:

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh has told the organization's brass that he's not interested in the Texas Longhorns coaching job, but if Harbaugh decides to leave, the club won't put up much of a fight to keep him.
That's according to a report from ProFootballTalk.com.

The report says Harbaugh's contract doesn't stipulate that he can't leave for a college-coaching job. And, reportedly, the 49ers aren't interested in getting into a bidding war for Harbaugh's services.

Because of his success at Stanford and in the NFL, Harbaugh has been linked to the Texas opening from the start. He led the 49ers to the Super Bowl last season. His 2010 Stanford team, quarterbacked by Andrew Luck, went 11-1 and won a BCS bowl.
Although he says he has no interest, it is amazing that the Niners say they won't get into a bidding contest.
