Introducing Shannon Kelley - Ex-UT Quarterback

Shannon,

Thanks for your contributions to the UT football program.

"First thing I learned while playing QB at Texas, was that life is not always fair. It doesn’t always work out the way you had planned it".  Your words are so true.  Fortunately, you got to live out your childhood dreams.  Many of us "wannabes" were not that blessed.  As a boy, I dreamed of being the next Mike Cotton or James Saxton, but it wasn't meant to be.  Perhaps in my next life, but for now I am content that I'm where God wants me to be.  But, I sure wish he wanted me to run out of the tunnel at the Cotton Bowl and bust a sooner.

For the majority of my life I have assisted organizations and people with career transition issues...and the advice from your Mother was right on... "Finally, it wasn’t until my mother became terminally ill with cancer, when she said to me 'stop doing what you think everyone else around you thinks you should spend your life doing, and go do what your heart desires'. iT WAS GREAT ADVICE!"

As an advertiser, Aaron allows me to submit a monthly blurb,,,"HORN" In On Franchise / Business Ownership and I have been wondering what I should write / post for September.  I think I will use your introductory piece as a segue to a topic like... Today, the majority of employees are not engaged at work. In other words, most workers are not happy, not satisfied, not productive, not loyal, not inspired and will jump ship if another opportunity arises...

Thanks for the idea and welcome to Horn Sports. Hook 'em!

And Thank you!

Shannon, I am on record as saying once Heard sits under center, he won't let go of the job. While I understand he's struggled some in practice, I think he's got some serious mojo once on the field.

Nothing against Swoops as he's earned the job. If he slips, IMO, Heard will take it over.

SHA, you may very well be right. What I do know is that what great athletes can do in High School, does not always translate into college, especially at this position. In high school, as you know, many times a great athlete can just "out athlete" the opponent. If you can run, and throw, more times than not, you can make plays that lead the audience to believe you are for real. Until a great recruit straps on the helmet, and the lights come, you hope for the best, but really never know.

LET'S HOPE THEY BOTH ARE REALLY GOOD!

Stay in touch, brother SHA!!

Wish I had some pithy remarks to make, but I used my last ones on another post.

Anyway, welcome to HS.  I look forward to your insights.

Shannon,

I feel as is if I "know" you.  I was at UT the same years you were there (1984-1988).  Welcome to Hornsports!  Looking forward to your insights.
