people should be themselves and I'm glad they felt free enough to speak publicly but seriously, I've never seen so many Sports Center highlights for a guy that played 11 minutes, was 0 - 1 shooting, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 5 fouls.

Hopefully this conversations goes the way of the black QB and it's not even a conversation soon.

Thanks Sean! People are often quick to dismiss things of this nature but these 2 players being open about themselves could go a long way in creating a more open minded sports society. I'm always of fan of people being able to express themselves freely

One of the interesting aspects of this situation to me is the 100% lockstep of the media.

There is zero dissent.

Not a single one of them.

Dissent in this specific area is basically an impossibility (as it would be career suicide).

I see a close parallel to Pavlov's dogs.

Those poor dogs could not help but salivate upon hearing that darn bell.

Sam just rang the media's bell, and got the conditioned response.

When I read the thread title I thought they were getting married.

Gotta keep the story going somehow...

one of the ironies is many, if not most, of the media members will have some sort of i'm-more-enlightened-than you disclaimer along the lines of 'it will be great one day when we don't have to talk about this'. how about we don't talk about it NOW.

the guy came out a year ago, and yes, it was noteworthy at the time. is it still? he's a journeyman scrub. is every game he plays here on out news?

what happens when his 10-day contract runs out and he's not resigned (which is usually what happens on these 10-day deals). will it cause hand-wringing analysis and calls we need to 'look at ourselves' because the first openly gay player has been cut?

beyond tired of the topic.

This is getting old fast... look my faith says that homosexuality is wrong and I believe it to wrong, but that does not mean that a person should be hated on. So I will respect him a human and a football - basketball player, but I don't have to agree with his homosexuality. If he can play then let him play... just enough already.

Queue the selective media outrage when Sam goes undrafted. But, as NFL talent guru Gil Brandt pointed out, Sam is a player "without a position". He's too small for DE and too slow for OLB. Where does he play?

Sam's comparatively small, weak, and slow. Check out his stats versus other DE's from the combine.

The grandstanding media are driving me nuts on this. Juan G is right, there is no dissent and if there was it would mean the person would be out of a job. This isn't the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's. These media aren't courageous for "putting their neck on the line" because they aren't.

I'm all for equality and tolerance, by the way. I too am happy for these guys. It's just the phonyness of much of it is driving me crazy.

Michael Sam got cut today by the Rams

Can still be put on Practice Squad if he clears.
