Since Mike covered all the Texas commits' stats and games yesterday in Burnt Ends, we'll skip that part this week rather than be redundant.

The BIG TICKET in town this week

Westlake (Austin) versus Lake Travis (Austin) is an absolute must-see Texas high school football game.

That is, if you can find a ticket.

The two storied programs both sport flawless 7-0 records and are both ranked in the Top 15 of the MaxPreps Computer Rankings for Class 6A in the state of Texas.

Given that Westlake and Lake Travis are intense rivals, it's the perfect storm for there to be an abundance of excitement ... and a shortage of tickets.

Several people have posted on Craigslist looking to purchase tickets for the game. One person is offering to sell them — at the low, one-time price of $100 for a pair of tickets.

Meanwhile tickets for Saturday's University of Texas home game against Kansas State are fetching, in some instances, $75 for a pair.

Everyone is expecting an incredible atmosphere on Friday evening.

"Games like this are why you coach," Lake Travis head coach Hank Carter told the Austin Statesman. "For the coaches and the kids, it’s fun and stressful all at the same time."

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. For those not fortunate enough to secure a ticket, MaxPreps will provide live play-by-play.

Stay tuned, I am hearing that many schools are trying to move up their football games a day in anticipation of a storm system that will move through the area and bring potentially severe storms with it.

FYI

Yep, looks like several here in East Texas are moving to Thursday night to try and beat the rain.

#1 Camas (7-0, 4-0) at Mountain View (6-1, 3-1) Friday 7:30 PM

Mountain View has a stud RB, Preston Jones, who has not had a game with less than 131 yds this season. He has 1,422 yds and 17 TDs this season. They are very one dimensional offensively. Mountain View D has really had trouble stopping the air attack of their opponents this year. That does not bode well for them against the Papermakers.

Camas can secure both the 4A GSHL league title and a #1 seed in the playoffs with a win. Camas is still almost a unanimous choice as the #1 4A team in the state of WA. Watch for Camas to get their big TE Roy involved in the passing game and that should open things up for the running game.

I say Camas wins this game by 24.

Austin Update:

He had his 4th and 5th PT appts this week. He is barely two weeks out of surgery. Weight bearing on his repaired knee. Still uses crutches but can make steps without them. He just has to take that part easy, especially at school and out in public places so he isn't knocked down accidentally.

He also was tools today that he can bend the knee to all but 20% of full range. PT was amazed.

Next update will be next Thursday or Friday in the HS football thread.

Glad to hear he's doing well Joey!

High school football games around the Dallas area endured lengthy delays Thursday night because of inclement weather, and a few games were postponed.

The Denton Ryan vs. Keller game and the Trophy Club Byron Nelson vs. Denton Guyer game never started. Both had lightning delays of about 1 1/2 hours from when kickoff was originally scheduled before they were postponed.

Denton Ryan will play Keller at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Keller ISD Athletic Complex. Byron Nelson will play Guyer at 11 a.m. Friday at the Collins Complex in Denton.

The Frisco Liberty vs. Frisco Centennial game at Toyota Stadium also never started and was postponed after a delay of more than an hour. No makeup date or time was announced.

With 2 to 5 inches worth of rain expected to hit North Texas this weekend, some teams are starting earlier Friday in an attempt to play in the best conditions possible. Here are the changes we have so far. We'll update this as we get more information.

Thursday's game between Wylie East and McKinney was stopped in the second quarter and will resume at 1 p.m. Friday.

Thursday's game between Wilmer-Hutchins and Carrollton Ranchview was stopped at halftime and postponed until 2:30 p.m. Friday

Thursday's game between Garland and Lakeview Centennial was stopped in the second quarter and postponed until 2 p.m. Friday

Thursday's game between North Dallas and Bryan Adams was stopped in the second quarter and postponed until 2:30 p.m. Friday

Friday's Mansfield Timberview at Red Oak game is starting at 6 p.m.

Friday's Sherman at Wylie game is starting at 6 p.m. at Wylie ISD Stadium

Friday's Tulsa Holland Hall at Fort Worth All Saints game is starting at 6 p.m.

Friday's Canton at Melissa game will start at 6:30 p.m.

Friday's Bullard Brook Hill at Frisco Legacy Christian game will start at 6:30 p.m.

I played QB for Dennis Alexander at Daingerfield for three years. He had no issues with being physical with players when I knew him, although he certainly was physical at times. He once grabbed me by the face mask when I returned to the sidelines and pulled it up and down as I chewed my ass. I was in no way hurt, physically, although my pride was beat up a bit. One of the smartest football minds I've ever known.

East Texas icon is suspended for striking player

According to Smoaky.com, Troup athletic director and head coach Dennis Alexander has been suspended by the Troup ISD for allegedly making contact with a player during a pre-practice speech in front of the team on Monday.

The report said Alexander has been accused o contacting a player on the back of his head during the speech and the school district told Alexander "we've taken statements and it's in our best interet at this time if you don't coach the team this week."

Alexander denied the allegations to David Smoak on Thursday, while saying the investigation will continue with a possible decision next week.

The legendary East Texas icon is in his 46th season as a head coach. He's been at Troup for 4 years and has an 18-23 record at the school. He has an overall record of 341-188-11. His 341 wins are the most in East Texas coaching history.

Alexander has previous head coaching stints at Hughes Springs, Daingerfield (2 state titles), Henderson and Harelton. He led Daingerfield to three straight state championship games in 1983-84-85, winning the title in '83 and '85.
