High School Football Week 9

Morton Ranch's defeat of Katy Tompkins was significant this week. By virtue of this win by MR, it puts Katy into Div II of the playoffs which means you will not see a Katy vs Allen matchup.

However, you could see another rematch of Katy vs Cedar Hill.

With tonight's win, Camas wraps up the District title and a #1 seed in the playoffs in Week 10.

Thats about as close a game as I've seen them be involved in. I suppose they get everybody's best game.

Sorry guys, had water coming into my house this evening. Thanks for the big assist, Joeywa!

Last night I was going to make a bad joke that SHA might be flooded out in DFW and not able to post.....glad I didn't! Hope you got everything taken care of Mark and limited damage.

Interesting game last night. Camas had a couple of fumbles from the RBs in the early going.  That, coupled with a flag-fest from the officiating crew, (I'd bet there were 20+ penalties on Camas last night,) really kept this one closer than it should have been.  Camas held Mountain View RB Preston Jones to 77 yds on 19 carries, his lowest total all season.  He had not had less than 130 yds in any game this season, and the Camas D held him to about half of that average.  Mountain View is a good team, but Camas held them in check.  Camas outgained them 382-268.  Camas RB DelMoral had 24 carries for 179 yds, 2 TDs and added another on a 21 yd reception.

Next week is homecoming, and Camas plays a bad Heritage team.

Highlights; (Apologies for the ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC production from a local media outlet.)

Arlington Martin scored 87?!!!  Holy crap.

I played QB for Dennis Alexander at Daingerfield for three years. He had no issues with being physical with players when I knew him, although he certainly was physical at times. He once grabbed me by the face mask when I returned to the sidelines and pulled it up and down as I chewed my ass. I was in no way hurt, physically, although my pride was beat up a bit. One of the smartest football minds I've ever known.

East Texas icon is suspended for striking player

According to Smoaky.com, Troup athletic director and head coach Dennis Alexander has been suspended by the Troup ISD for allegedly making contact with a player during a pre-practice speech in front of the team on Monday.

The report said Alexander has been accused o contacting a player on the back of his head during the speech and the school district told Alexander "we've taken statements and it's in our best interet at this time if you don't coach the team this week."

Alexander denied the allegations to David Smoak on Thursday, while saying the investigation will continue with a possible decision next week.

The legendary East Texas icon is in his 46th season as a head coach. He's been at Troup for 4 years and has an 18-23 record at the school. He has an overall record of 341-188-11. His 341 wins are the most in East Texas coaching history.

Alexander has previous head coaching stints at Hughes Springs, Daingerfield (2 state titles), Henderson and Harelton. He led Daingerfield to three straight state championship games in 1983-84-85, winning the title in '83 and '85.

Troup ISD special session @ 6 to discuss suspension of AD/HC Dennis Alexander, who I've confirmed has turned down settlement offer to resign.

Alexander was suspended last week for allegedly contacting a football player prior to practice.
