Some people get off on being internet hotshots...know-it-alls. Pretty sad.Comments like this is what bother me about message boards. Seriously, how do you know he no longer has interest? The only person who knows if he has interest is Urban Meyer himself. So are you Meyer?
Can we stop with the assumptions and lack of logic?
(I'm a PhD student. Forgive me.)
I don't think anyone knows he doesn't have the same interest. At this point from what's being said by someone on another site that actually knows him and texts with him he would at least meet with Texas and listen. His agent was contacted todayYou really don't need to be an insider to know Urban is not coming to Texas. While he was very interested in Texas before Ohio State opened up, he no longer has the same interest.
Can you actually think of a coach who has left an elite program for another elite program? It just does not happen.
As a PHD student logically you should be able to deduce that Urban is not coming to Texas. Do I know he does not have the same interest? I do not know him personally, but when he expressed his interest in Texas in the past, it was before he went to Ohio State. Since he has no connection to Texas, and he is from Ohio, it makes it less likely he would be interested.
Ohio State is one of the top 5 programs in the country, they can offer pretty much everything Texas can. Think about it, what motivation would he have to make the switch. Money?? Ohio state can pay it, Prestige?? OSU has more National Championships last I checked, Recruiting?? Texas is a better state but Ohio isn't half bad and they recruit nationally anyway. Ties to Texas?? does not have any. When people make job changes, there is something that stands out about the new job that their current job is not able to offer. There really is not significant difference between OSU and Texas (Now I do not know the inner working of each dept so I can only comment on the surface). Unless there is some fight meyer is having with the Administration at OSU, which there are no rumors of that, there is no chance he is coming.
There is evidence to back up the claim. Is it the strongest evidence? No, it is not. Fact is I do not know Urban Meyer, I have not had a conversation with him, or do I have any hearsay evidence that he would make a jump. But this much is known. 1) Elite coaches do not jump from one elite program to another. It has not been done, not saying it cant happen but it really is not done.
2) Meyer has no connection to Texas, he does to Ohio.
3) He expressed his interest in Texas before he took Ohio State's position.
4) On the surface, there is not anything that Texas could offer that Ohio State cant.
5) He just made a jump 2 years ago, there have been no rumblings that he had been unhappy at OSU (there would have been some leaks out there if there were) and the FACT is, there is a lot of silence on that front.
Now with the facts that we know, and the evidence that exists, it is pretty evident to the educated person that Meyer is unlikely to come to Texas. If you think otherwise, I have some swampland in Florida to sell you. Now again, Urban Meyer may have a deep secret love with Texas football and it could have been the dream job he never spoke about to anyone before that I may not be aware of. So no we do not have all the facts that could be possibly known, but the preponderance of the evidence says he is not coming to Texas.
Serious question: are you orange horn, his off-spring, or just his torch bearer?Pancho, go ahead, put your money on Meyer, Harbaugh, Saban, Malzhan and Fisher. I will take the rest of the field, I like my odds.
I agree. Seems like a reasonable argument to me.There is evidence to back up the claim. Is it the strongest evidence? No, it is not. Don't mean to be picky but Texas is absolutely not an elite program. That's why we have been wanting to get rid of DeLossy (brain dead) Dudd and Mack Brown. An elite program doesn't get routed by non-elite programs to the tune of 42-21, or by other elite programs to the tune of 65-13 every three years (among other losses). You really don't need to be an insider to know Urban is not coming to Texas. While he was very interested in Texas before Ohio State opened up, he no longer has the same interest.
