Fire Shaka Smart thread

AND he attended Texas for graduate school I think. I'm definitely on board with this
Undergrad and 4 years as basketball team manager under Penders.

Masters from Abilene Christian

He would be a favorite for me too but I don’t see him leaving Tech. He has a good situation right now.
Well, we're Texas. Make his situation better. Then watch his teams fill up the new arena.

Love the way he develops his players.

Yep, Beard has a big buyout. Sampson recently signed a new contract, so I think he has a big buyout too.

I'd take a very hard look at Texas Tech's Chris Beard. He just wins wherever he goes. No baggage. Great coach.

He would be an obvious top 3 call to make but... he's already making over $5 mil/yr at Tech and has his system in place so I dont see it happening; maybe a couple or three years ago but not now.  Basketball isnt like football where it is hard to get the quantity of talent to compete consistently.

yep but it depends on the structure of the contract.  Some have "outs" if they can move up to a different level such as Div1 or NBA

I was reading about it earlier. I think the outs are for an NBA job.

I would have to put more thought into it but other calls I would make...

Brad Underwood (Illinois). He's making around $3.4 mil/yr and coached at Hardin-Simmons, Stephen F Austin, KSU, oSu among others - see if he wants to come back south with a pay raise.  He's in his late 50s so might be too old for a long term solution and/or too old to start over.

Dana Altman (Oregon) another coach that is probably too old (60s) to start over.  coached all over including KSU  and only making $2.7mil

Tad Boyle (Colorado) another late 50s guy but has done a good job turning CU around and only making $1.8mil. His age along with being born in Colorado and played at nearby KU so might be content where he's at.

A guy I would definitely check in on is...

Will Wade (LSU). He's only about 38 yrs old. He was an assistant under Shaka Smart at VCU and already has been been to the sweet 16 and at least a first round win this year (plays CU next). Also went to the second round as VCU head coach when Shaka left.  Makes around $2.5mil at LSU and could be around for decades. However, he's been a south-southeast guy so it may be hard to pull him away from the sec
