Why waste another 4 million bucks?

I believe Smart's buy-out is ~ $7M. Then if they have to cough up more $$ to get a new coach, that could run into some serious money and I'm not sure Texas will pay that kind of money for basketball.

Beard has a large buy-out. Another thing is he only loses 1 player so Tech will be stacked next year. Why leave that for the lineup he'll have at Texas?

I think Texas should try the waters with Drew Scott. Look at what he has done with Baylor over the years, especially this year.

If you watch basketball you would know that Beard's offense might be worst than Shaka's. He is a good coach but other than one elite year he has been .500 in the Big 12.

I'm not trying to stick up for Shaka, that was a sh*t show Saturday night. I just don't believe Texas will shell out $7M plus to get rid of him. If it was football, he would have been gone years ago.

I agree.  They may have paid $7M some year but not a COVID no revenue year on top of the football buyouts.

He would be an obvious top 3 call to make but... he's already making over $5 mil/yr at Tech and has his system in place so I dont see it happening; maybe a couple or three years ago but not now.  Basketball isnt like football where it is hard to get the quantity of talent to compete consistently.

That buyout is reasonable. I do think CDC will feel obliged to look where there is no buyout involved, which will be tough.

Last year, Shaka's buyout was $15 million. They (BMDs) weren't going to do that. But thats been cut in half now. I was told that the BMDs want a good basketball program. They just wanted to have a more workable situation. I think we have that.

It's Scott Drew at Baylor, and he's a prick. But yes, he wins but he's about to be in the Final Four, so I'm not sure he leaves even for more money.

I will admit I have not read anything on this thread, and I am on the Fire SS side of the fence....but as I learned with the whole UM debacle that we just went thru and we got damn lucky to get Sark....

IF/WHEN they fire SS is there a real rainmaker available to come in and make us a legit Sweet 16 team within two years...

John Beilien doesn’t have a buyout. Runs a good offense.

It’s the same if you allow him to coach another year then can him.  You pay him $4M for another shot show then $3M to hit the road.  I’d pay the $7M now, and see if a new coach can do better next year 

No because you'd have to pay the new coach his salary also.
