As the UT Basketball team steamrolls to a 4-0 record it got me to thinking what should the expectations for Texas Basketball be?

Looking at the Rick Barnes era, they have made the NCAA tournament 14 out of 15 years which in and of itself is not bad since you have to make it to the dance in the first place. But taking a little deeper look they have been ousted in the first or second round 9 times, made the S16 twice, the E8 twice, and the Final 4 once.

A couple of interesting statistics about the NCAA tournament and the S16 during the Rick Barnes era, Since 2004 Xavier has made it to the S16 five times which is the most of any school, since 2000 the mighty Wisconsin Badgers has made it to the S16 six times, and the last is not a big surprise, MSU has made it ten times during the RB era.

When you look at the Big 12, they have only won the championship outright once and that was in Barnes’s first year, enough said.

Given the resources that Texas has at their disposal I see no reason they should not be in the S16 as many times in a 13 year period as Wisconsin. Do I expect them to win the Big 12 every year? No, but I certainly expect more than 1 outright Big 12 Championship every 14 years.

more than fair expectation. southland conference competitive should never be our standard.

Hopefully Coach Self will rectify this situation once he arrives. :)

Article in the AAS today says we had 2700 in attendance for Houston Baptist. Home crowds have been 4k or less so far. Gotta think no matter the record this year and the fact you can never see the team on LHN that Patterson notices the money suckage currently ini place for hoops.

I got us at 7-6 heading into Big 12 play.

Remaining Schedule before Big 12:

BYU (at KCMo) - L

DePaul or Wichita State (at KCMo) - If DePaul W/L but if WSU it's a definite L

UT-Arlington - W

Vanderbilt - L

@Temple - L

Texas State - W

@ Nawf Carolina - L

Michigan St. - L (huge L)

Rice - W

Pancho, That sound about right. At the beginning of the season I struggled to find 10 wins on the schedule.

i think we steal a win, say NC. it will be fools gold. and give one back to Rice, Texas State, UTA.

There cant be 2700 people there right? Every photo I see looks like 500-700......

I assumed 12 wins this season, but with how ISU has looked so far I dont think thats a split anymore. Maybe 10 now?
