Im pretty sure Saban to Cleveland last year was a done deal as well.

SignUp Now!I live in TN (Knoxville area) and can attest that your assumption is correct...at least here. Folks here can't stand the guy (same way they can't stand Spurrier) and hope that he leaves. Anyone who coaches at another SEC team and has any success whatsoever is hated for all time in whatever region of the SEC country that they did not coach in.I would debate that the head football coach at Alabama would be a beloved individual in Georgia or Tennessee. Take Atlanta away from Miss, KY, Ala, Ga, Tenn and its a complete economic sewer. Add Atlanta in and its a complete economic sewer with a large city .
Chattanooga area here. There are more Alabama fans in southeast TN/northwest GA then there are UGA or U Tenn. fans. Saban had a speaking engagement at the local U Tenn. booster club and was sold out faster and had more interests than any other past college coaches.I live in TN (Knoxville area) and can attest that your assumption is correct...at least here. If they were discussing terms or even speaking to him or his agent it would be known at this point based on his current contract. Highly doubt that would remain a secret. The only truth we know is that we reached out to his agent and Saban said thanks but no thanks. Everything else is just unsubstantiated claims/rumorsI'm not going to say anything that's not really obvious, but no one knows the deal with Saban, Saban doesn't know. Sure he and his agent are kicking the tires and discussing general terms, but until he actually signs a contract it's meaningless. We're not going to know for a couple of months if it's yes or no. If I had to guess, I'd say more likely than not but I've seen enough of these situations to know that any of a hundred things could change the outcome. I will say the less this is a headline topic the better for our chances; too much media attention is no bueno.
Like I said, none of that should be new to anyone, but in terms of managing expectations there is no deal today. Step one is Mack stepping down without a bloodbath; that's looking a lot more likely than a week ago.
Not following any of that. I can tell you without reservation that Sexton never said "thanks but no thanks". That's absurd. If they were discussing terms or even speaking to him or his agent it would be known at this point based on his current contract. Highly doubt that would remain a secret. I hope my Hawaiian friend is wrong.Love el mahico and hope he comes on over. He says saban is not happening at all. Interesting since there are those who say he is. I guess different sources with different info but those are pretty opposite. Anyone with real info or is the truth in the middle meaning no one knows? Love this board!!!
if you have a subscription to Inside Texas that really isn't accurate. They are the ones that first broke the Saban story last year. For one its not been reported Saban said thanks but no thanks that I've seen. Second the reports over the past few months have been pretty detailed and even to the degree of having sourcing on the Bama side. Tons more detail than just contact last year. This thing has been pretty developed. Mcphaul has even had more info than just some casual contact. I dont know what happens and I enjoy El Mahico at Orangebloods as well, but he's the only one out there claiming Saban told Texas no over a month ago. The story has only gone deeper since then and countless other staff and insiders there and elsewhere have not heard thatIf they were discussing terms or even speaking to him or his agent it would be known at this point based on his current contract. Funny.this day in age rumors don't last.if there was anything to the Saban to Austin rumors then it would be on every major network, Alabama boards would be blowing up for starters. The fact that none of this has taken place but sites that charge have "inside info".seems to me that they are more than likely trying to gain subscribers and revenue. This story wouldn't be relegated to pay sites if there was anything substantial with it.dont mean to be a Debbie downer but there is absolutely zero that's credible besides the fact they talked in the spring.if you have a subscription to Inside Texas that really isn't accurate. I cant change your mind without posting some of the info, and not going to do that, but Check some of Mcpaul's crossfire reports. He's heard some of the same things IT has and it wasn't on a pay site. But Those guys have some great contacts. Very legit ones. Doesn't make Saban a done deal or anything but its not just made up rumor to stir up a story. They got killed last year when they wrote about Wallace Hall and Hicks meeting with Sexton, and the meeting with Mack about his retirement, but were later proven totally correct. the Saban story has actually been talked about beyond the Texas boards. Even Tim Brando (who is a SEC blowhard) mentioned on his show a week or two ago when interviewing Chip Brown that the story had substance to it. I dont buy into the done deal talk, but I do believe Texas will push very hard for it and make Saban make a decisionFunny.this day in age rumors don't last.if there was anything to the Saban to Austin rumors then it would be on every major network, Alabama boards would be blowing up for starters.
