Dorial Green-Beckham denied eligibility

The NCAA has denied the elibility request for Oklahoma receiver Dorial Green-Beckham.

Oklahoma released a statement Friday night confirming the news. Green-Beckham, considered the best receiving prospect in the country in 2012, had transferred to Oklahoma this summer. He'd been a two-year starter for Missouri. But Tigers coach Gary Pinkel kicked off Green-Beckham in the spring because of the talented receiver's legal problems.

OU's statement said: “The University of Oklahoma has learned that the waiver request it entered on behalf of Dorial Green-Beckham has been denied by the NCAA. The University accepts that decision and will continue to provide the appropriate assistance to Dorial, just as it does with other students, in helping him grow personally from the many opportunities available to him at OU.â€

Green-Beckham will be eligible to play in 2015.

It's been a tumultuous August for Oklahoma. Sooners coach Bob Stoops suspended top recruit Joe Mixon for the year when the running back was charged with assault. Linebacker Frank Shannon, the team's top tackler in 2013, was suspended for a year for violating the school's Title IX sexual misconduct policy. But Shannon has appealed the ruling to the Oklahoma Supreme Court. A court referee heard arguments from both sides earlier this week.

That's great news but the fact that Stoops and OU wanted him eligible to play THIS year remains disgusting to me.  As much

as I despise OU, I have always had respect for Stoops.  Whatever respect I had for him is gone now, never to return.

No Mixon & no DGB means there's even more pressure on Knight to be the player he was in the Sugar Bowl.

It would have been a joke if the NCAA had approved the waiver, and had the Sooners made the playoff, there would have been multiple complaints filed, and justifiably so. The NCAA is in uncharted territory.  They are in danger of being cast aside by the programs that pay the freight.  I believe they should be.

Stoops has revealed his true character, IMO.  So has the OU administration.  What do they tell the rest of the OU team about character?  Some of those kids came from good homes that have values and they have been taught what is right and is wrong.  What do they think of their coach and school now?  Are they proud of them?

Is it worth a national championship to sell out your integrity and moral values?

OU and Stoops are scum and there is no way I would allow my son to play for that rat hole in Norman.

I can't agree with you, Chris.  OU is a nationally recognized program - they aren't Tulane.  No way they should be so desperate for players that they would sell out and try to slip a woman abuser into their program.

They simply have identified themselves as a program that will try to win at any cost.  I sincerely hope they are booed and derided in every game they play this year.  They have it coming and I am sorry the good kids on that team have to be identified with the rest of that trash.

This is not the route my beloved university would take - only OU and and TAMU have no problem entertaining these kinds of actions.

What I don't understand - for the life of me - is how OU and Stoops could suspend Mixon for the season, but actively support DGB to be eligible this season.  What is the difference between their respective cases?  DGB didn't break any facial bones in his assaults on women?

It's hypocrisy defined.  I doubt DGB ever plays a down for OU.  He's eligible for the NFL Draft next spring.
