I am appalled at the lack of confidence in our fan base. I guess decades and decades of underachievement leaves our fans a little gun shy.

Right now, in this particular moment in time, Texas is one of the best jobs in all of sports.

- Economic growth in the state and city of Austin.

- Desired location to live

- Top revenue stream

- Second richest alumni base (behind Harvard)

- Networking capabilities like no other sports job in America (maybe 3 or 4 professional teams in various sports).

- Largest fan base in college football and one of the largest in any American sport.

- One of the 10 largest non track stadiums in the world.

- Largest home recruiting base in the country.

- State produces elite speed and is by far the best state in America to find quarterbacks.

- Easy conference slate.

- Annual game with OU is uniquely one of the great rivalries in all of sports.

- Perfectly set up for the national playoff

- Huge visibility with the Texas markets

- One of the most recognizable logos in the world.

- Top 30 universities in the world based on reputation.

- Admin is more than fair with expectation level.

- Point of No Return because of conference realignment, the SEC, A&M and the Nick Saban saga. This hire must be big and the donors will not settle for less.

- And most importantly? With all the built-in advantages, the program has underperformed on the field and at the facility level for most of its history. The fan base is starving for a winner and someone is going to go down as The Great American Savior of Texas Football. Don't act like the top candidates don't know this. And don't act like the donors won't sell them on it.This job will get no lower on the scale than Jimbo Fisher or Gus Malzahn; and a truly huge name will not surprise.

Deja vu. :D

Thanks for the post, patience is gonna be key here. I really hope we start out swinging for the fences.

That made me feel better! We are the Joneses, although I hope we don't act and think Like Jerry.

I like what you are selling Cosell!

You gotta admit thats funny no matter who you are

I am taking a wait and see approach at this point.. Better to expect little and then be highly surprised.

Preaching to the choir Brotha! I've been saying this all along. It really bothers me that even some of my closest friends from UT have such low expectations. I'm speaking of people that give upwards to 6 figures to UT either academically and/or athletically every year. Some on this board absolutely repulse me with their attitude towards the school and its athletic department, you know who you are.

The one point you made that I would like to echo is the opportunity for the new coach to become a stalwart in all of Football by becoming UT's savior. Everyone assumes Saban is the best Coach in the business because of what he Hans accomplished but UT has inherent advantages that will allow the next Coach to equal if not exceed his accomplishments.

That's not just sales talk. EVERY Coach in the business knows this. That's why the list is small, very small.

I've been saying all along the landscape has changed for programs like Texas. Therefore I do believe we will look to the NFL for our next Coach. The performance on the field will be predicated more by the quality of the staff than the HEad Coach himself. That's why I believe the list is small and propagated by NFL guys that have assembled staffs of the best guys in the biz.

Forgot one thing Mr Cosell - NO STATE INCOME TAX.

That's huge when you are making decent money.

This. Timing just isn't right at this time for many top candidates. Again it might not be appealing to Longhorn fans but Mark Dantonio is my pick to be the head coach

I don't think Texas reaching for the stars and going after the best of the best is the issue here. This is a coaching hire not a coronation. The coach has to want the job and the circumstances. If Texas got to choose who they want, Saban would already be here with Dantonio as his DC, Harbaugh as assistant head coach and OC. You seem to forget it is a 2 way street.

And yet with all that we had Mack Brown as our best choice.
Go listen to Red McCombs response at the Alamo Bowl presser again. Finances are way different now than in 1997. Like it or not, Mack helped fill the coffers.

agree with Mr Cosell . dont get the extreme negativity about things right now. this is an exciting time for Texas. I think very highly of the AD hire and the coaching hire hasnt even been made

the important thing was it was time for a change at head coach and that was made.
