I am appalled at the lack of confidence in our fan base. I guess decades and decades of underachievement leaves our fans a little gun shy.
Right now, in this particular moment in time, Texas is one of the best jobs in all of sports.
- Economic growth in the state and city of Austin.
- Desired location to live
- Top revenue stream
- Second richest alumni base (behind Harvard)
- Networking capabilities like no other sports job in America (maybe 3 or 4 professional teams in various sports).
- Largest fan base in college football and one of the largest in any American sport.
- One of the 10 largest non track stadiums in the world.
- Largest home recruiting base in the country.
- State produces elite speed and is by far the best state in America to find quarterbacks.
- Easy conference slate.
- Annual game with OU is uniquely one of the great rivalries in all of sports.
- Perfectly set up for the national playoff
- Huge visibility with the Texas markets
- One of the most recognizable logos in the world.
- Top 30 universities in the world based on reputation.
- Admin is more than fair with expectation level.
- Point of No Return because of conference realignment, the SEC, A&M and the Nick Saban saga. This hire must be big and the donors will not settle for less.
- And most importantly? With all the built-in advantages, the program has underperformed on the field and at the facility level for most of its history. The fan base is starving for a winner and someone is going to go down as The Great American Savior of Texas Football. Don't act like the top candidates don't know this. And don't act like the donors won't sell them on it.This job will get no lower on the scale than Jimbo Fisher or Gus Malzahn; and a truly huge name will not surprise.
