SignUp Now!I'm not plugged in to either school by any stretch of the imagination but... I have a good friend who's a HUGE Bama fan who knows "some people who are part of a Bama BMD group prepared to offer Saban $1M more than Texas". He's adamant that Saban's not leaving and that if he considers it this group will make sure it doesn't happen. I asked him why they hadn't put the issue to rest and made an offer to extend his contract instead of waiting for us to make an offer...he had no answer for that. I enjoyed the silence when the implications/possibility started to sink in.Be interesting if Bama offers a "lifetime contract" complete w/$3M raise, and $50M buyout or some such. Me thinks Bama BMDs are printing the money as we speak. Or... has that already been mentioned and Saban said, "no"? While I doubt the latter scenario, Bama's bound to try and shut this all down forthwith just like Baylor's rumored to this week, even tomorrow.
What say you, McPhaul, and various plugged-in types?
We all know if the next couple of games are bad, Mack is gone. So, if we continue to play well, there are two scenarios IMO if we win more than we lose these next few weeks:Well, beating the hell out of OSU would mean that 100% will go down. More wins=Mack digging in his heels
I don't cheer for losses. Mack will be back if he wins out. That's the truth.
Exactly. He'll be in investment deals well after he's done in football as well. One of the reasons Roger Clemens decided to play for the Astros after playing for the Red Sox, Toronto and the Yankees is that he understood that if he wanted to retire in Texas, the value of his brand had to be extended to Texas. To do that, he made a connection with Texas fans.
What is the retirement value of Nick Saban's brand if his only market is Alabama? (Hint: the answer is "not nearly as much as its value if he makes a connection with UT fans in Texas.")
Get ready then. I firmly believe that he's not coming. Hope to hell I'm wrong but I don't think he's leaving Bama. He'd retire IMO before coming to texas.I don't want to think about the disappointment I'll feel if Saban doesn't end up at Texas, but I've already been sucked in, and there is no going back.
Old coaches never want to quit. Look at Bobby Bowden and now Mack. If Mack were to go 2-1, I think that would be more incentive for him to retire in order to say he brought the program back to where it should be. Not saying he will but it would be the best scenario.Nick Saban is a lot like Jimmy Johnson. Always looking for new worlds to conquer. If he doesn't come to Texas, he wants to ride off into the sunset in a year or 2. I personally think he wants 5-6 more years and needs that new world to conquer. It just fits all too neatly.
...And that's fair Doc!I joined this site as a result of your thread on IT. Understand that, even though I covet Saban, I am not in the camp of those that say he is coming. I'm not trying to post up on your opinions, but until I see WHO, WHAT and WHERE the "inside information" is coming from (and this includes JS info from IT), I read all of this with a huge helping of salt.I want to believe, I would love to believe, I NEED to believe, but I simply don't believe.
