Crossfire with McPhaul - 11/13/2013

guys, as much as i love the horns, i think we need to be realistic and look at the class at which Saban is stock piling this year. do any of you honestly think(really take off the orange glasses here) a coach of Saban's caliber would leave that? He's guaranteed to win more nc's at Bama and cement his legacy as perhaps the greatest college coach even surpassing Coach Bryant. he just turned 62 and im not sure he'd be up to the task of rebuilding at ut. even tho it may not be hard. may not be something he wants to do. ive also read where shortly after these talks by sexton that saban and his staff all received raises. id love to be wrong but im just not seeing someone of his caliber leaving something like he's built at bama behind. flame away

Not sure what Saban's 2014 class has to do with this. He gets great classes every season.

True. And we could just have Saban's foot soldier, Suddes, expedite some offers to some of those players and when Saban comes on board he can see if those players "change their minds"

Me truly thinks college-development/premiere-coaching is more important than HS domination.

my point being, he already has everything to win a few more titles before he retires and with him being 62 as opposed to 52 he doesn't have that many years left probably. just my guess and gut feeling. and with him publicly stating that his only regret in his professional career is how he handled the miami to alabama situation i just dont see him making that mistake and going through what he did then. if he was younger i'd say that this story would seem a lot more plausible. but for now theres nothing to it. and wasn't oliver supposed to be the new ad that came in and made this all happen? that didn't work out so well.so far liking this site much better than OB

...come on guy's, recruits these days really do not care about the definition of "COMMITMENT". It's all about the "glamour"... not to mention the thrill ride.

Trust me, should nick roll/tide saban suddenly arrive at Texas, they will follow... blindly!

i never questioned the man's ability to recruit. im saying that it would take a couple years to get the amount if talent that he has in tuscaloosa at every position and that the man is 62 and not 52 and also considering his past regret in his career i highly doubt he makes that same mistake twice. hope im wrong. but common sense is telling me that this will not be our next head coach.

i think we should go after kirby smart.
yes, because he's a proven head coach.

Of course, he might end up being a good one. But why risk someone who has zero HC experience? Texas is not the ideal on-the-job training locale. Yes, I know it worked for Stoops at OU. Count me as someone who doesn't want to roll those kinds of dice.

fair enough.who, outside of saban, would you like to be consider for the hc job? mark richt maybe or what about jimbo fisher?

pretty sure there is another Gary Andersen (now with Wisconsin) or two out there--guys who have already done wonderful things as head coaches relative to where they've been, but yet are not easily on the radar.

You named a couple too, and then there's possibly someone else who may be a non-starter like Shaw, but who might listen if enough money and freedom to assemble a high-level staff is available. All indications are that we're offering such an attractive package, that it might induce even a pro HC or two to look seriously at us.

good stuff Slick!

You can't seriously believe the LHN would deter Saban. They would structure the LHN to HIS wishes.

I think the lhn would have a significant impact.while it may say long horn network it's still owned by espn.lhn is the stupidest move we ever made imo. Big 12 network would have made more sense to me but oh well.i really question the timing of these stories of Saban to ut . always seems to be before one of their big games.

Is Saban really going to sign on for all the LHN responsibilities that Mack is handling?
He won't have to...ESPN has already signed off on the new coach being able to set his own schedule/responsibilities for LHN. Jesus reported this a number of weeks ago. This was a specific negotiation request from Saban that was granted. It's not an issue.
