Might want to start paying attention to the weather. The traditional weather sources will soon (if not already) start adjusting their forecasts for the days just before and after Christmas.

I participate in a weather blog (I'm a hobby weather guy) because my job is dependent on the weather and I like seeing things well before they materialize. The chatter on this coming cold front is crazy. This is the website where aggiecutter and tecohorn are contributors. If you know them you know they know their stuff.

We're talking about the period between the 24th and 28th right now. Yesterday, one of the models had three straight days of below 0 temperatures for DFW. Thats insane, but one of the models put that forward.

It sounds like we'll probably end up with single-digit temps. There is a small chance DFW will see some snow flurries on Christmas Eve. SE Oklahoma will probably see a good snow fall event.

This will not be as bad as the 2021 winter storm. But no doubt, it will be cold. If the models keep pushing the ridge to dig further west, then we could be looking at some precipitation getting involved.

DFW has only seen 8 Christmas days with highs below 40. We will most assuredly see the 9th one this year.

Latest models are trending toward taking the ridge further west. This would be, if it holds true, more conducive to a precipitation event if it can materialize before the main body of cold air pours down.

DFW is probably looking at 5 degree lows for a couple days. Lower in places north and northwest. Houston may see 15 degrees.

I missed Snowvid (damn covid). I would like to see something similar.

All the weather forecasts for my area (Tyler/East Texas) is calling for cold artic air, but pretty much no precipitation.

The mainstream forecasters are always the last to commit to something like that. Still, anything can happen. Right now we're just speculating based on computer models.

What should I do for new live oak trees?  Planted a 45 gallon and 30 gallon live oak on Nov 12th.
I was going to post about this so glad you asked.

Water your new Oaks very well, early Wednesday if you can. Wet soil is harder to freeze than dry soil.

Make sure your oaks and beds have plenty of mulch.

I am going to warn that temperatures are likely going to be a couple of degrees colder than what the weather channel is forecasting. So if they're saying 10 degrees, think of it as 8 degrees instead. Because it will be. With those two things done, you'll be fine.

The 10 degrees or whatever for Thursday is one thing. What we also look at is how long temperatures will stay under freezing. Friday's high is only 26. Saturday gets up to 35.

So thats at least 2 days under freezing. By comparison, Feb 2021 storm had 5 consecutive days under freezing, plus sub-zero temperatures.

I mulched my trees and landscaping, myself. Hope it is enough. It is supposed to get down to 20 here. Didn’t water today. We got over an inch on Monday/Tuesday.

I am mainly concerned with oaks planted in early May. I deep watered them once a week throughout the summer, and they were watered with lawn regularly. Fingers crossed.

If the rest of it dies, I will just replant  For my oaks, I will shed a few tears.

The front hit my place (just north of DFW Airport) around 9:20 this morning. The wind really picked up as 63 said. Temperature dropped 20 degrees just like that.

I've got 12 degrees right now with wind chill at -5. Supposed to get down to 9 degrees by morning.

It was downright chilly this morning.  My car read 68 degrees as i was driving in to work at 0400 this morning.  Almost had to break out a light jacket.

In all seriousness, everyone please stay safe and warm and don't do too much outside.
Asshole. ROFLMAO! It was 10 here last night and I'm just 80 miles northwest of San Antonio.

jk hope you know that.

I posted that fully expecting to be called that.  I know you're kidding.

Seriously, you guys stay safe and warm.  I've been through those before in DC and St. Louis.  No fun at all.

This is my koi pond and waterfall. The water is still flowing but I may have to go break some of this ice as the temperature has remained under freezing, so the ice just keeps building.

I saw parts of Montana hit -40.  I don’t believe I’ve ever seen such a thing on the US mainlands.

Lost power two days ago for about 2 hours early in the morning. It got really cold. Lost hot water (we're on a well) yesterday. Spent most of the day slowly defrosting the lines.  Awesome neighbor had a butane burner/heater.  I need to get one of those.  First time in 9 years being in this house.

Not even the big freeze of February 2020? Or was it 2021?
