As always, ask your questions and we will address the best ones in Burnt Ends. We didn’t do one last week because of Junior Days. As always, shoot questions here or at hsmailbag@gmail.com.

What's the % that Anderson will select Texas? I believe he is finished with his visits and now time to decide.

Thanks Harrison

Long time reader, first time poster here.

Any word on how many we are going to take per position for 2019?

Is the staff realy prioritizing NaNa Osafo-Mensah? Things seem to be quiet since we offered. Didn't visit the good guys for Junior Day.

Are we likely going to offer Jamie Ferguson? Really like his tape and he is a 4-star on 247, but seems like he barely has any offers rn.

Welcome aboard!

Those are some great questions and we will get them answered on Monday!

1. Which 5-star players do you think Texas can land this cycle?

2. Why is Roschon Johnson not getting much love from the ranking services? Kid does things that make your jaw drop. Reminds of VY.

Should there be fewer injuries on natural grass, or more?

Is the practice field artificial turf?

Is the practice field artificial turf?
Regarding injuries, I've done some searching on that.

Research by the NFL has shown that certain knee and ankle injuries happened more frequently on artificial turf. The Ravens have switched to natural grass in 2016 and players noted that their knees and ankles felt less sore after practice and games because of it.

But research by the main provider of artificial turf in the NFL showed that about 20% less injuries happen on artificial turf comparing to natural grass. But what else were they going to say right?

A survey from 2010 among NFL players showed that 82 percent of them thought that artificial turf triggers more injuries than natural grass.

Side note: most of them also said that they prefered artificial turf over a poor grass field. The Texans were notorious for having an awful grass field so they switched to artificial turf. Generally artificial turf might be considered a safer choice because it is easier to get right. While a great grass field is better than artificial turf, a bad grass field is worse than artificial turf.

Especially the Seahawks seem to be very positive about their artificial turf, because they claim their defense plays a lot faster on it and hence performes better. Statistics about their defense mostly support this notion.

Some interesting things seen on another site concerning the Athletic Department.

Del Conte has intentions to streamline the Athletic Department and it's not a secret within the department. Many people won't be there this time next year. Maybe as many as 200 people which is about half the department.

Says it's not financially motivated but rather about removing bureaucratic bloat and operating with greater efficiency. Says this bloat is seen as a culture killer and source of entitlement. Says Del Conte is actively trying to change the culture within the department and that if you're not on board with it, or fight it, your employment there is terminal. Also says Del Conte knew this problem existed coming in but he did not know to this degree.
