Brown

Poisoned what well? What changes if Mack stays a few days?
I think that getting rid of a guy who is arguably one of the best to coach here, then hiring away a guy successful, happy, and the highest paid coach in the country doesn't happen overnight.

Evidently you do.

Everyone in the world knew if Saban didn't come you'd blame it on mack. That was the only 100% guarantee.

Why would Saban care if Mack announced now or in dead period - why would that derail the entire process? Saban knows that it's difficult to force out a highly successful coach of 16 years.

If they wanted Saban, and thought Mack was slowing it down, Mack would be gone. How would these people who had the power to finalize a contract with Saban, not have the power to get Mack out?

No facts have come out about Mack poisoning the well - only pissed off posters.
This might be the most rational post that I have read in weeks...a very distant 2nd being Saban to Texas 100% a done deal.

Maybe we should redefine the term "done deal". This will be the last time I log on to this site. Hook em.

No, it is not apparent that Mack is at fault. Spin it all you wish but Saban would have been crazy to come to Texas. He was never coming, get over it.

The world will still turn tomorrow, and despite what the naysayers think I will still be supporting my University of Texas football team as I have done every since 1958. I have seen these meltdowns before.

If you are are true UT fan and not a troll or acting like aggy, you unite behind the program and stop pushing ever opinion that is offered by anonymous sources on the internet. We have some good people running the University, and in time everything will work out for the best. Some supposedly UT fans are so intent on getting "their way" that they care very little about the damage their actions and words have on the great UT

Chip reported the following:

Saban was already going to be seen as the bad guy at Alabama. He couldn't also be seen as the guy who pushed out a disgruntled, 16-year coach. When word got back to Saban's camp that Mack was fighting to keep his job and complaining about press leaks - Saban was done waiting around for an offer from Texas.

And that offer was coming.

The spin is on all sides. To imply that somebody is not a true fan because they do not buy the company line lock, stock and barrel is lazy and untrue.

To many, Nick Saban was their desire.

To others, Nick Saban was a symbol that Texas was going to commit to excellence.

To some, Mack Brown's way of running this program is acceptable.

To some, mack Brown is not and will never be worthy of being considered great like DKR.

What we are is a divided fanbase.

Does someone who loves Texas with blind loyalty also love the possibility that Kearney was dismissed and Applewhite was retained?

What most of us need to remember is that we love Texas.

It is the only apparent thing that will keep the fanbase together.

That is what most of us have in common.

Embrey I like your post and agree with what you say. I never meant to imply that I was any more of a fan than those who embrace the points in your post. I think you nailed it when you said, "What we are is a divided fanbase." While I disagree with many, and agree with many others, we are all one community and root for the same University. We all want the same goal, a winning program, and at the same time to maintain our high standards and remain a great learning institution. Where we differ is in how we should achieve our goals.

I appreciate that since_DKR, I really do. I was compelled to answer that part of your post (If you are a true UT fan ...) but I now realize that I wanted to interpret your statement as a personal inference because we disagree. I intend to continue calling for a new HC but I hope you and others that are supporting MB will understand that that is what I think is best for Texas. I am not attacking you personally or inferring anything about your opinions because I understand that this is what you believe is best for Texas. Like Travis said in the most recent "the Alamo" movie:

"There have been many ideas brought forth in the past few months of what Texas is and what it should become. We are not all in agreement. But I'd like to ask each of you what it is you value so highly that you are willing to fight and possibly die for. We will call that Texas."
