Brown

guys, some of you are just obnoxious. McPhaul backed off on the "100%" claim days ago and has even said he wouldn't use that sort of language ever again. cut the guy some slack!
He shouldn't ever use that kind of language if it's not actually happening.

“@McMurphyESPN:
Patterson on Brown: "Hopefully we get together & get to work together for many years to come"â€

McPhaul my question is why did the Powers that be allow that to happen? Why did they not just fire him Monday after the Baylor game? He deserved it. The last 4 years have been a disaster. No other honest way to describe it. If we were not going to fire him then why the rush to fire DD? Steve Hicks needs to have the BOR meet again and fire Peters asap period. I am pissed at Mack Brown. But now I am just as pissed at Powers and Patterson. Bring on Miss Rice asap and get rid of all these clowns. This is beyond insane. You do not Mack Brown call the damn shots. If Mack is calling the shots we do not need Patterson and Powers.

DD was not fired. There's an issue at play there that required he stepped down. He's got a battle ahead.

This does conflict with the idea that Patterson was selected because he's not afraid to make a move.

Until this makes sense, I'm going to put myself on idle.

I don't know what to think.

I am friends with a regent and he indicated to me that Mack would be leaving. I don't know what to think. Are the regents misinforming folks in some sort of disinformation campaign, is Mack going but just not announced, did Mack change Powers mind after he assured the regents that he would make sure Mack leaves?

What the hell is going on? Who is in phuckin charge?

So you go from Brown being a 100% gone to Saban being a 100% done to now Saban isn't coming and that your are not convinced Brown will return but there is a possibility of it?

I'm really not sure what your end game is here but you were dead wrong. Maybe you got screwed over by your sources or maybe you're just fishing for clicks... but your credibility just took the biggest hit.

At this point you fire him. Accept that it will never be pretty ith a legend, stop worrying about image and get it done.

Mack accomplished his mission already and so did Powers.

Neither wanted Saban and waited to get backing from the BOR before screwing up the whole deal.

I despise both men.

A year ago, almost to the day, Tommy Tuberville walked out on a group of young men at a recruitment dinner...never to be seen or heard from again by these recruits.

UT is not Tech, and would not allow such an act by it's leaders.

Mack is no Tuberville, and would never leave anyone hanging in limbo as Tommy did.

Let this play out through the weekend. This might be part of a very well thought-out plan to keep all parties in a positive light, yet still execute the plan we all expect to see in regards to our current head coach. I'm sure there has always been a list of candidates (plural). Let's make sure the choice is solid.

I think people are freaking out a bit prematurely. Granted it seems like some of the things said tonight were not what we wanted to hear, but what were they supposed to say considering Mack hasn't resigned yet? The rumored timelines of Mack stepping down had been pushed back to Saturday at the very least, through next Tuesday. So, Saban is probably out of the question now, if he ever was a real possibility at all, but as long as Mack is gone by next week that's a win for the program.

And what exactly did Patterson say? The only quote I can find is, "Hopefully we'll be able to get together and work together for many years to come." This could very well be true and mean, for the next few years, that anytime Patterson needs it, Mack will hand him a red stapler...and that's all.

Hold off on full blown panic mode for a few more days.

When a politician looks to another and says "many years to come" he means it. Patterson has every intention to ensure the rot and kleptocracy of the program continues. The first sign of it is his retaining Mack Brown.

I think this was all a plot by Mack and Powers to kill any Saban deal. Patterson apparently just sat there with a smile on his face.

I also think if Mack was coming back then there would have been, with a room full of recruits, a clear message from Texas/Mack.

I do not believe McPhaul made anything up and was just reporting what he was being told. I do believe his source(s) either were not as high a level as they think themselves to be, and/or they just underestimated the situation (or overestimated their power) and got severely outplayed. I've posted this before, but if Mack being gone was as much of a "done deal" as was being presented then the schedule for this week should have already been scripted a month ago.

And this is what I'm most disappointed in at this point. Who in the hell is running the show over there? I was truly under the impression that these "BMDs" were in consensus and had all of this under control, that the administration agreed, and it was all a done deal. To the contrary, as it turns out Texas does in fact put on a spectacular clown show.

cmb,
I think it is pretty apparent that Mack poisoned the well, is it not?
Poisoned what well? What changes if Mack stays a few days?

I think that getting rid of a guy who is arguably one of the best to coach here, then hiring away a guy successful, happy, and the highest paid coach in the country doesn't happen overnight.

Evidently you do.

Everyone in the world knew if Saban didn't come you'd blame it on mack. That was the only 100% guarantee.

Why would Saban care if Mack announced now or in dead period - why would that derail the entire process? Saban knows that it's difficult to force out a highly successful coach of 16 years.

If they wanted Saban, and thought Mack was slowing it down, Mack would be gone. How would these people who had the power to finalize a contract with Saban, not have the power to get Mack out?

No facts have come out about Mack poisoning the well - only pissed off posters.

McPhaul said a few days ago that he regretted using 100% and would never do that again. Nothing is ever 100%.

A common thread to the moderators and insiders at all the boards is that Mack and DD had previously painted Saban in a negative light to Powers. Believe that if you want but too many reporting it. It then stands to reason that Mack would attempt to poison any Saban deal. May or may not be true but it sounds logical.

While the info from last night is hard to digest for all of us, why don't we push off the eating of our own until this thing comes into focus. I mean that it still doesn't add up. If he is staying, then he NEEDED to say it immediately and overtly. From a recruiting and staff retention standpoint, it had to be done. It hasn't been done which heavily indicates that we are seeing what we are meant to see. Smoke and mirrors designed to make you believe that this is Mack's decision. This is what Mack wanted all along. This feels designed.

On the Saban front, I am disappointed, but still not convinced that is dead. I mean, haven't we been told repeatedly that Saban doesn't have a buyout? Even if that is incorrect, would it really be the straw that breaks the camel's back if Texas really wants him? Since he basically signs an extension every year, is next week really any different than last week?

I don't know anyone. I don't even know anyone who knows anyone unless you can count the people on this board who actually do have an inside track. My point is that if you really must rip someone a new one if this ends up going against your hopes, you should probably wait to make sure its done before you show your ass.
