Bama fan speaks on Coach Saban Rumors

Are you kidding me? You're coming on to a Longhorn board and talking about arrogance as an Irish fan? Additionally, because one fan claims we have more money you're lumping a whole fan base into the "arrogance" category?
POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK.

Notre Dame is the most entitled and arrogant University in college football. How your school managed to maintain respect after 20 years of terrible football and insignificance is beyond me. Somehow you guys got lucky with getting into the NC last year after several close games to mediocre teams. Of course you were exposed after getting taken behind the woodshed by Bama.

Nevertheless, whoever Texas tags as a coaching staff will undoubtedly be respected and focused on winning.
You sound like an Aggie with that vitriol against my alma mater. I'm not even going to dignify your opinions about my beloved Irish - you don't like them, then don't watch them. It will not bother any of us, because we are everywhere and play everyone. We're playing in 2015 in South Bend, and I'm bringing some of my UT alum friends to kick it back in South Bend again (we were up there in 1996 when Lou and Mackovic were coaching), and I am going to throw one back for that one this afternoon...

UT fans with some insight understand how colossal that game will be...

Hell yes Irish fans are proud and insane about Notre Dame football. We are insufferable. Just like my close UT friends are insufferable. They are proud as anything about their school. Just like we are.

Go Troll on OB with that bit. Real college football fans post on Hornsports...

I didn't address this part of your post which is arguably the most important bit. You are correct that we have had political issues in the past. However, in the past year a whole new group has come to power and are leading the charge to address all issues. This group includes key Board of Regent's, the next Governor of Texas and current Lt. Governor, and the wealthiest and most powerful behind the scenes mover and shaker in the Texas political world. These people have one by one addressed all the big issues with the final key bits having been addressed in the past few weeks.
Now that's interesting...

Aggie? Troll? I'm a Longhorn fan for sure.

You don't need to dignify anything. You've already shown your character by the post I answered.

I was more than happy to answer considering I have the past 20 years of Notre Dame football to back up my comments...not to mention your poor choice of finger pointing and lumping the Texas Longhorn fans into a category based upon a discussion. That represents an Aggie if you ask me.

Insufferable...maybe. Unfortunately, that wasn't the term you used. Additionally, I could care less that you have friends who are Longhorn fans. That doesn't make you immune to posters' responses to your asinine comments.

Perhaps you are the one on the wrong board?

Well, he's right about not outbidding them strictly on salary. It's the other forms of compensation where the playing field is heavily weighted in our favor. In terms of basic salary compensation there is only so high you can go...even when resetting the bar....due to political considerations.
Considering it's against NCAA rules for a coach to get paid by boosters so let's hope our athletic dept wouldnt jeopardize the football program by doing something so ignorant. So let's hope it's not as Baghorn says or we could be sol. You'd think insiders wouldn't let violations become known to the world

Oddly, I think thats how Briles gets part of his compensation.... "donations"
boosters can donate to the athletic dept and those donations go to the athletic fund.they cannot allow boosters to give financial packages worth 9 figures to a coach. So saying that we have Saban or any coaches lined up because of some investments from boosters shows that what one is saying is a lie.no chance in hell our athletic dept is that stupid to allow boosters to do such a move.

Im not sure there is a rule against boosters helping guide a coach into some business investments. They wouldnt just be handing him money out of their pocket. Bama boosters were involved with Saban in some investment deals it seems. wouldnt appear they broke any rules

That's probably true but I believe Baghorn said the boosters will give Saban an investment package worth 9figures. Boosters aren't good for programs when they start interfering with the AD

Im sure Bag can clarify but I took that to mean those people would help place/guide Saban in some lucrative deals that would net him a lot of return. They aren't going to just hand him a check

He made it seem like a guarantee that Saban wouldn't be personal liable for said investments if they go sour so he's being given cash pretty much if that's the case. Alabama would also stand a lot to lose if the rumors are true and that boosters took care of his "loses".regardless I think the loss makes for some interesting weeks ahead

After Auburn loss

Saban was in Hoover (suburb of Bham) on Monday, to recruit Marlon Humphrey, #1 prospect

If, as Baghorn says, it was a "done deal", why would Saban be out on the recruiting trail working his ass off??????? I am definitely more linked into Saban than Baghorn is to whoever remotely approaches whoever it is that he says told him something when he was ........ come on guys! This is propaganda!

You guys should have grabbed Malzahn while you could............ can't state enough how much a bone head move that was

Malzahn is going to win some championships. You let Auburn sign him up to long term deal today.

I checked further with Bama sources....Saban doesn't have ANY financial problems or investments. You guys are being fed a lie and then going off on it...... you denigrate UT by doing so.......this is getting ridiculous!

I keep trying to leave this site. I have too much to do in real life. But the fantasy that you guys live in just amazes me.......I have got to see this to the end.

HAVE to see how Baghorn explains this one

You guys are going to be shut out of top coaches at this rate, and it is looking more like Mack Brown will be back next year since you can't get the guy you want. Especially if wins out this year

I'll have to call you out on one aspect Willie, he does most certainly have financial issues. They are on the hook for several bad deals with Spinosa.

Sorry Whisenant

but he doesn't

I just got off the line with an old friend from Tuscaloosa........who is the MOST intimate member of Coach Saban's friends.... You can Google it and find out but promised I wouldn't say.

he said if Saban had any financial problems, if was before Bama (2007) and that he has never heard of them. He would know.

He didn't know if Saban was coming or going but that Saban had NOT discussed leaving ever with him and he was his (Saban's) closest friend

As to Wall Street Journal article, and all the other malarkey, ....he said "not an issue"

I asked him if Saban had been mistreated in any way while at Bama, especially regarding investments

"He has never been mistreated" is his response. "Alabama has given him everything he has asked for". He said that if Saban leaves it will only be because of his desire to rebuild another program, nothing else.

In summary:

Saban ISN'T going to Texas

Baghorn: put it on the line and either make it or break it. your reputation is on the line. I will hang around to see this through to make sure your "guarantees" are worthless and the light of day is shown onto your hopeful wishes and myriad dreams.

... Boosters aren't good for programs when they start interfering with the AD
But I guess boosters are great when they've got Mack's back? Then no questions asked.

This is the only topic you post on that I've seen. And it's the same message on and on. Your comments seem more like an agenda than a point of view. You also sound oddly well-informed on otherwise trivial points of issue. Curious.

A really well-run athletic department - and please don't confuse that with one that's throwing off excess cash for the moment - would not have to rely on boosters to step in because tough and appropriate decisions and planning weren't otherwise being made. Patterson was hired to fix exactly that. Let's see how it plays out.
