Bama fan speaks on Coach Saban Rumors

I just got off the line with an old friend from Tuscaloosa........who is the MOST intimate member of Coach Saban's friends.... You can Google it and find out but promised I wouldn't say.

he said if Saban had any financial problems, if was before Bama (2007) and that he has never heard of them. He would know.

He didn't know if Saban was coming or going but that Saban had NOT discussed leaving ever with him and he was his (Saban's) closest friend

As to Wall Street Journal article, and all the other malarkey, ....he said "not an issue"

I asked him if Saban had been mistreated in any way while at Bama, especially regarding investments

"He has never been mistreated" is his response. "Alabama has given him everything he has asked for". He said that if Saban leaves it will only be because of his desire to rebuild another program, nothing else.

In summary:

Saban ISN'T going to Texas

i don't understand how you go over one source whereas people like baghorn and mcphaul have several different sources that confirm the same thing. if you purpose is to troll, have a good day. i enjoyed your beginning post but you lately became very defensive lately.

willie, you started out this thread in a classy fashion but your attitude and approach has devolved the longer its gone on I'm afraid. Please understand, for me none of this is personal in any way. I have no disrespect for Alabama or yourself. Everything I've shared is strictly based on my understanding of the situation based on feedback from people who are deep in the middle of it. After today, I'm pretty much ready to 100% guarantee Nick Saban is the next coach at the University of Texas. You should expect an announcement along those lines in the next week or two. The bigger problem for us has been getting rid of Mack in a way that satisfied all the necessary constituencies. Mack took care of that for us today despite having been gifted a path to a Big 12 Championship. So, at this point nothing is really standing in the way anymore other than crossing the T's and dotting the I's. I hope you take this in the spirit it is intended which is this is my understanding of things...not some taunt to Alabama or you personally.

I've doubted that Saban was ever coming but I also doubt that you know anybody of relevance and that doesn't include the buggy boy at the Piggly Wiggly. Thanks for stopping by though.

I have not read the entire thread so not clear how provocative you have been in your posts, but I suspect the venom being directed your way is a result of your posts trying to dim the light at the end of the tunnel Horn fans have been praying to reach. People do not enjoy having their dreams rained upon. I don't trust any news, no matter the source, without verifying through several outlets so I have always viewed Saban to Texas with a grain of salt. If I were a betting man I would bet against it. That said those rumors and others have kept hope alive amongst a fan base that has been desperate for some so your attempts to point out otherwise are not going to be welcomed on a Longhorn board. I surely hope you are intelligent enough to see that. Before you point fingers at what you call a pompous fan base ( and on their message board in particular) I would suggest you and your SEC brethren take a good hard look at the insufferable arrogance you display towards every other conference and team that is not in the sec sec sec. Because of it the rest of the college football nation will rejoice should the 7 year run end.

I can't say "I don't care if Saban leaves or not" because I want him to stay. But that is not the reason for my post here on your board (and I do understand what you say about going onto another team's board). All I ever wanted was to know why, Texas fans though they could outspend Bama fans for a football coach! You can not pay a coach enough that a major program fan base like Alabama can't easily match, goodness, we are only talking about at most $10 million a year, that is chump change for any major program.

I was then told repeatedly that I just didn't get it, that Texas was so stinking rich that nothing else mattered.

I come from an affluent family, and an affluent town (Tuscaloosa) and to be told, WHEN I KNOW BETTER, that we are irrelevant, and the other party has NO idea of the facts, just that they are Texas, well, it got me going so to speak.

If Saban wants to leave, I truly wish him the best and say God Speed.

I hope Texas will find the right coach, regardless, because college football is best when the top programs are in play against one another.
