Another Aggy arrested

yes i'm concerned...but still hopeful. losing golden sucks because he was the only true SEC defensive lineman we had last year (as a true freshman at that). i think he would have been an all conference type of player this year...but i think we've got some beef to back him up.

kam miles might have started last year had he not been injured, but i think that many of our issues in the secondary were coaching related. howard matthews looked like a future star in 2012, but looked lost in 2013. he's talented, and hopefully our new DB coach will be able to put him in the right position to be successful.

claiborne was our best MLB last year, which we realized after trying donnie baggs (who's natural position is WLB) there as well. it sucks to lose claiborne, but out of the three, he's the one i think we can make up for the most. the light seems to have come on for mastrogiovannie, and at 6'3 245 he's got the prototypical SEC MLB size. him being in the middle allows for donnie baggs to go back to WLB. tommie sanders was the #1 juco LB in 2012, but struggled to put on weight. supposedly he's doing better at the role now and should be the starter at the other LB position.

we lacked size last year at LB. steven jenkins was a starter for us and measured in at the combine at 5'11 and 216 lbs. i think we'll get more size and i think it will help.

more than anything our defense should be better simply because we'll have production off the edge through myles garrett, who by all accounts is having a great camp.

claiborne was playing out of position at mike. he probably would have been moved outside (more of a natural position) and mastrogiovanni would have been moved to starter at MLB.

if i had to rank the losses i'd say 1) golden 2) kam 3) claiborne .
I hope the plan wasn't to move Mastro to mike and move Claiborne outside, or Sumlin really has no clue what he's doing on defense. Did you watch the bowl game with Mastro at mike, it was bad really bad. A&M finally started getting at least a stop or two in the bowl game when they moved Mastro outside. Mastro won't even make it through the year at mike, just wait and watch. I will say Mastro might be your only choice at mik.e

Oh?  What "personal issues" might those be?

Pretty coincidental that an A&M football player was accused of punching a Rice student, when Stansbury was in town. If they lose Stansbury that defense might actually be worse next year.

Mastro was playing his first ish game at mlb against duke after seeing mop up duty most other games. He was also playing at 230 or so. I think he's got promise at the position this year.

The loss of stansbury is a shot to the gut.

I think Mastro is a decent outside LB, don't think there's a shot in hell he ever turns out in the middle. That's just my opinion and I've been wrong before.

Recruits are noticing.

Justin Dunning tweet, "How come A&M players keep getting in trouble".

Several other recruits have also tweeted similar responses.

Du'vonta Lampkin gets it......

"A&M may have the biggest recruiting class but the some of the team cant stay out of Jail."

IMO, the only plausible response is, 'it is due to the culture.'

Whatever steps are taken, it will not be fixed overnight, and it will be very painful.

Aggy's problem is Sumlin, not the players. Calling the kids thugs, while paying Sumlin $5+ million/yr is beyond hypocritical.

Is this a nature versus nurture thing.... while I agree that environment plays a role...but every person has choices in life to make..

No! NO! No!  This is the nature that they nurtured!  So, you just gotta consider the source!  ;)

#WRTS - We Rob This State

These tweets perfectly sum up why A&M is in a world of hurt with all these losses in the front seven.

Gregg Tapper, "A&M gave up 7.97 y/a on 3rd and 3-or-less in 2013, second-worst average in the nation. That's why front seven losses are concerning."

David Wunderlich, "Also, A&M allowed nearly EIGHT yards per carry on third and short last year. That's uh less than stellar."

David Wunderlich, "Since 2008, no one in the SEC allowed more than 5.41 YPC on third-and-short. And then boom, 7.97 for A&M last year."
