I vote for an 8 team playoff, with half of the bowl games going away. I've always thought teams with six losses should not get rewarded with a bowl game. I still feel that way.

SignUp Now!I said it when we had a CCG and the B1G & Pac 10 didn't. If we're going to have a playoff, there has to be an even playing field for all involved.I vote for an 8 team playoff, with half of the bowl games going away. With all due respect, all of those teams seem mediocre and imo would not add much prestige to the current collection of schools.
I would rather go after teams like Louisville, Clemson, FSU etc.
Houston does NOTHING to lock up the TV market there. . .we already own Houston, . .. brand wise and any way you care to count. . .just like TCU didn't do squat to help us TV wise in D/FW. . .Ideally, playoffs expand to 8. Agree, that may not happen because of 10-year contract and ESPN & media talking heads like the controversy.
Do y'all really believe UT and OU get left out under the same circumstances? Maybe, because 12-1 > 11-1, but I don't think so.
Of the expansion candidates, here is my ranking by desirability, availability (fan base, media market, TV dollars), and the fact I believe Big12 will go east - not west - to follow through on promises made to WVU
If I'm wrong and we look west it's BYU by a long shot, Boise St, and Colorado St.
- UCF (SEC market, largest public university in USA and better option than USF - we don't need both - b/c basically the same media footprint)
- Cincinnati (#2 in OH and in B1G market)
- Memphis (SEC market. Rumor is FedEx founder, Fred Smith, will buy his way in with $20MM and be nice to have 'em as Big12 sponsor)
- Houston (Locks up top TX media markets. Yeah, I know UH doesn't really deliver H-town but Big12 brand lifts them up and screws aggie)
and neither military academy will field CFB teams that can really compete with UT & OU or bring anything to the table athletically in other sports. Is UT vs Navy really a big TV draw? Would rather invite Navy to create another rival geographically for WVU and poach into the Baltimore/DC/Northern Va market. And we can tap Army to pull in some of New York plus both will draw nationally. . .
And both enjoy superior attendance compared to Cougar High
We can't do that because we signed are rights over to the Big12 for the next 10-12 years....UT and OU should join the PAC12 with 2 other high profile teams. I would rather see that than invite teams the being mentioned to the BIG12
no contract is ironclad or can't be bought out. if we were so inclined to move, of course, and evidently we aren't.We can't do that because we signed are rights over to the Big12 for the next 10-12 years....
Lol.... you sound like a lawyer. ...no contract is ironclad or can't be bought out. if we were so inclined to move, of course, and evidently we aren't.
MODS !!!! this guy is insulting me !!!!Lol.... you sound like a lawyer. ...
I didnt realize that. 10 years? Thats a long time. I guess I should place my Big 12 ballcap next to my dusty SWC ballcap on the shelf. :wacko:We can't do that because we signed are rights over to the Big12 for the next 10-12 years....
With a 4-team playoff, somebody is always gonna get screwed. Its funny that the ones that got "screwed" in this whole mess are 2 of the teams in the Big 12 that would have a tough time finding a landing spot in a super conference. They can be mad about the situation but don't have the clout to change it themselves.
I expect the Big12 to petition the NCAA for a waiver to hold a conference championship game. The point I made all week long was that Baylor, TCU, and OSU had comparable SOS. The difference was the 13th game for OSU. Yes, Baylor didn't play very good teams OOC, but they do play minimum 9 power 5 conf teams a year. The issue is that with the champ game setup, so does every other conference. Honestly, would the NCAA be OK with a 10 game conf. sched for the Big 12? That way, you could still do a round robin and have 13 games like other conference champions. The Big 12 would only have to add one more team and would have a much easier sell to potential suitors and would likely be able to bring in a bigger name. Also, the conference members wouldn't take as big of a hit on their cut until the renegotiation of TV contracts in comparison to having to add 2 programs into the mix.
