5 Thoughts Following The Win Over TCU

Last edited by a moderator:
So for this TCU game our first half drivers were...Missed FG, turnover on downs, TD, punt, FG, turnover on downs, and punt. That is acceptable offensive football for you?
Good lord, sometimes the other team has something to do with how we play. We, arguably, were playing the best defense we will play this year.

Just for a little perspective, our offense put more points on the board in the first half than the mighty OSU Buckeyes offense did against TCU last week. AND, OH, WE ALSO DID IT FOR THE ENTIRE DAMN GAME!

And we only turned the ball over once on downs in the first half. Not twice.

Big hat tip to Todd Orlando and his defense as they found a way to limit the explosive TCU offense to less than 20 points and force Shawn Robinson to turn the ball over several times, including one that led to an offensive touchdown.
Good read but small nitpick.

We scored 14 off turnovers not 7

I thnk it is ludicrous to criticize the play calling when the offense moved the ball aganst a very good defense. Watching that game I was pissed at how many drives could have been extended had th QB ever been able to deliver the ball where the receiver could cach it in stride. To blame the play caller for bad execution seems to be a recipe for disillusionment.

While there were certainly some execution issues, you might want to avoid this week's Cheap Seats.    Cuz our gameplan could be much better.

We intentionally avoid crossing patterns and the middle of the field (between the hashes) in the passing game.

The announcers were pointing out what plays we would run by formation

Agree on the OL though this week was the first time I couldn’t see the tackles have a tough time on the edges. TCU’s athletic ends were giving them some problems.

Also agree on McCulloch. If he can provide those kinds of minutes with Roach out then Texas will be just fine.
Agree on the tackles having some trouble this week.  However, that last drive to seal the game in 4th showed this line is ready to be the kind of line that takes over games when they matter.  Need a couple more weeks together then watch out.

Ok gents. Let’s take a step back. Enjoy the 3-game win streak and leave the name calling to other fan bases and message boards. Good win tonight with KState on the horizon.  A win next week puts Texas in a good spot heading to the State Fair.

Enjoy. HookEm

Always the Ambassador

What crow is that? How about you F off

;)

Triggered much??????

We can at least end the "we suck until we don't".

Beating 2 ranked opponents back to back officially means we don't suck

Let us take this 1 game at a time...........and please don't call those plays/decisions at mid field in the 2nd quarter again........amen.

I'll eat crow for sure... they played their tails off against TCU. I feel like I know a couple things:

1. We have the best defense in the Big 12

2. Our offense is not elite yet... and that could potentially cost us against better offenses.

I am still not completely bought in yet cause I am a battered fan. We have to go up to Kansas and take care of business. Can't let the train slow down.. but finally there are signs that this team can be really good and the program is coming back. I'm cautiously optimistic. Gotta beat K-state.

This. Texas has beat a ranked opponent in back to back weeks and folks are still angry lol.
We are still just battered fans... but you are right, these two wins are nothing to sneeze at. This tcu squad gave ohio state all it could handle last week on primetime.

If every lay worked, no punt or field goal would ever be needed. So many of the plays that turned out badly, could have gone for gains had the ball been put where I was needed.
Except that pitch to the short side on 4th and short. Makes my blood boil. How unaware of the situation do you have to be to run some new-fangled pitch to the short side on a crucial down?

I mean just simple freaking spacial awareness tells you a pitch to the short side with defenders all packed in there, especially against a fast team, is DUMB.

Mbhornsfan maybe we can agree to fire Herman if he does that again?

That play was a head scratcher for the exact reasons listed.

I do think the offensive execution is better. I almost died when Sam almost left the pocket then reset and found LJH for the TD. That is definitely progress.

I am extremely happy I was wrong about our chances in this game. We are better than last year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we will stay focused and find some consistency. For the first time in many years I’ve regained some hope.

Im not superstitious per se but I do try to duplicate my routine when things are going well so...TCU is overrated and this win proved nothing.
