2024 Recruiting Board/Thread

So much excitment late summer. We had what six or seven 5* that we were "in good shape " with. All that excitment has fizzled. Only Black is left and every day that passes I wonder if he will wind up elsewhere as well. I know Sark "has a plan" but geez.
Yea Sark plan but everybody is not goin along with plan. Hope he don't alienate Texas recruits,we missed on 2,4,& 5 rated WR recruits in Hudson, Wesco & Bussey but we got #43. Oh forgot Miller, who was #16

Word gets around with todays recruits. I share your concerns on Texas recruits and HS coaches.

WR's Good chance 4 will leave. 4 return + 2 commitments. Red could move back to WR and Wisner could make a slot for 8.

I don't know. Hudson was a Tech legacy. We didn't pursue Wesco very hard. And Bussey wanted to stay small town.

Bussey may still be a Horn. If the wheels keep falling off over in aggy land. With Jumbo in the crosshairs, there is an abundance of uncertainty there.

I think we've all acknowledged that UT staff doesn't see things like the recruiting services do. So "missing" on whatever rated stars shouldn't bother you too much. This staff has proven to be good evaluators, especially compared to guys I'm not sure even played the game.

This sounds like the kind of thing we make fun of the Ags for saying. There are plenty of highly rated guys that we went hard after and just didn't get. Probably we just mis-allocated NIL, or got into bidding wars with schools who were willing to go higher. So this class will have some positions that are a little weak, at least on paper. I'm sure some of the lower-rated guys we sign will pan out, but plenty won't. Hopefully lessons have been learned for next year's class, which should be outstanding if this season goes the way I think it will.

And while I'm generally happy with this staff's recruiting, I'm not sure I can yet say with confidence that they are good evaluators. How many players that this staff recruited out of HS are starting now? I can come up with 5 (Banks, Campbell, Worthy, Burke, T Brooks). If you include backups who play a lot I got 6 more (Hutson, Baxter, D Williams, Muhammad, Hill, Finkley). And note that only 2 of those guys (Burke, Hutson) were outside of the top-100 recruits. So not a lot of evidence yet that the staff is great at identifying underrated players.

But of the ones you mentioned, how many are Freshman and Sophomores? All of them except Worthy which speaks to not only evaluation but also fairly rapid development. Additionally, Sweat, Sorrell, Ford, Ewers, Majors, Jones, and Sanders have all improved over the last two years and are now discussed as draftable which has not been the case for over a decade at Texas.

Another note to remember is that many Texas fans were wringing their hands the previous two years only to be fairly pleased come mid-December when signing day actually happened. There are lots of reasons recruits choose to come or not. Wingo is a Mo. kid who has seen his home school blow up out of nowhere, others may like used car salesman, and some may not like the staff or feel they can receive rapid playing time. If the last two years have shown anything of this staff, it is that they recruit better than any of the last two and very differently than Mack ever did. Okay, that is two things. Just one message board poster's opinion.

The recruits go out of state and are not loyal to in state schools. Sark's job is to get the most talent regardless of where they are from. And ZFG about the high school coaches in Texas. Bunch of damn divas.

Is there talk that Wisner will be moved to WR? I'm guessing at Whittington's position??

I will say this in response.... the level of talent across the board, currently at Texas, is the best I've seen since 2009 - arguably better across the board than 2009 (I actually think the 2008 team may have been more talented). I also like that this staff isn't so in love with speed - that we sacrifice size and partake in that ridiculous "spin down" philosophy.

I find it difficult to find any criticism in the current methods of bringing in talent.

This OL is light years better than the 2008 guys.
