I just finished the Unexplained documentary about Johnny Manziel and had some thoughts/questions for the board.
1. Who remembers his recruitment. Texas signed David Ash that same year, he was a prototypical prostyle QB out of HS and ranked a decent bit ahead of Manziel who was a small school dual threat kid. Both were 4 stars. Any other reason that people remember that Texas stayed away other than going after Ash?
2. Knowing what we know now, would y'all have preferred to have Manziel as a longhorn? Heck, he could have gotten into even more trouble in Austin and maybe amounted to nothing at all. But what about the heisman winning superstar he was during his freshmen season? Would you trade that performance compared to the 8-4 Texas team that went to the Alamo bowl and beat Oregon State?
3. Man, what, what I would call, luck by Texas A&M. First year in the SEC and they catch lightning in a bottle, a good season on the field and a Cotton Bowl win. Heisman trophy, so much money got donated that year. What if Texas had Manziel on the roster and if nothing else prevented A&M from getting all that shine.
For the A&M fans out there, I'm sure it is pretty conflicting. Their best season in a very long time and a heisman trophy but even during his 2nd year at A&M was pretty subpar on the field and totally flamed out in the NFL and was a disaster off the field.
The documentary doesn't necessarily paint a picture of him getting his life back together either.
