Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

A OL that is. I am for 3 more OL and 4 more DB either recruits or transfers.
And here I thought the Horns would have the best secondary in the country - hands down - by 2020 or 2021 after the huge haul in the 2018 class supplemented by a couple from the 2019 & 2017 classes.

5*/.988    Caden Sterns - turned pro
5*/.98  BJ Foster
4*/.97  Jalen Green  (early 5*)transferred
4*/.97  DeMarvion Overshown (early 5*)
4*/.968 Anthony Cook (early 5*)
4*/.948 D'shawn Jamison

4*/.95  Tyler Owens (2019 class)
4*/.92  Josh Thompson (2017 class)

I'd be hard pressed to find anyone on this list that lived up to expectations. If I had to pick one that hasnt sucked it would probably be Cook (& possilbly Jamison) THIS year but that isnt living up to expectations

Cook has really upped his game. Jamison has been decent. Overshown has shined at times and so has Thompson.

Foster is really the one that sticks out on your list. At times, he's been a liability. Owens was a late gamble (thought he could be developed). It just didn't work out. I'm sure he'll transfer.

Sterns never seemed able to get himself healthy. I suppose thats a credit to him for playing hurt. But he never really grabbed that freshman year magic again.

IT had a source tell them QB Casey Thompson had re-aggravated his thumb before the game on Saturday, and it was swollen.

That's probably the explanation for Texas failing to pass down field against OK State.
that thumb is going to be a season long nagging injury, it will only get better due to inactivity or to do some medical procedure or even immobilize it completely. CT will just have to learn to play thru it and hope it doesnt get any worse

With a bye week, he should be fine as long as he's getting some TLC on it.

Weird calls always when playing okie lite. Remember the 2015 game and all the phantom penalties against us.

Or when the ref bumped Strong and threw the flag? Yep, I often wonder if Boone Pickens put the officials in his will.

This was posted another board when discussing Texas football struggles.. Damn good post.

One thing it can't be is a talent issue.

NFL players by program:
  1. Texas (34)
  2. TCU (15)
  3. Oklahoma State (14)
  4. West Virginia (14)
  5. Baylor (13)
  6. Kansas State (12)
NFL offensive linemen by program:

  1. Texas (5)
  2. Kansas State (5)
  3. TCU (4)
  4. West Virginia (3)
  5. Baylor (2)
  6. Oklahoma State (1)
NFL defensive linemen by program:

  1. Texas (8)
  2. Baylor (3)
  3. TCU (3)
  4. Oklahoma State (2)
  5. Kansas State (0)
  6. West Virginia (0)
Some dolts on this board will have you believe it is and has been a talent issue, specifically along the two lines. Well, it ain't. Those Baylor, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU and West Virginia have each had far less talent over the last decade but have combined to go 29-24 against us.

I hear what you're saying, but since I've been one of the people complaining about the O-line, I guess I'll chime in. I'm only seeing four OL in the NFL: Connor Williams, Sam Cosmi, Trey Hopkins, and Calvin Anderson. I wonder who the fifth is. Also, Calvin Anderson was a transfer from Rice and we only had him for one season.

At around the 24 min mark, I'm glad to hear he sent those 2 plays (QB roughing on Texas, no call on Casey) to the league to address. Not that it would have changed the outcome but if you call it one way, you have to call it the other.
ok... but it means nothing on Monday. It's really saying, "I'm mad now that I saw it on replay since I wasnt paying attention during the game." He should have been in the face of the refs DEMANDING a relook from the booth for crown of the helmet targeting on a defenseless player.

I was at the game and I saw him speak to the refs right after Casey was hit. He then spoke to them again during a timeout however I'm sure the ref(s) used their get out of jail card "in my judgement". His only other recourse was to send it in to the league.

We didnt see that on TV.  But, talking is not good enough in this situation. He should have made a spectacle of it, called a time out if necessary, and demanded a targeting review.  If either foul would have gone Texas' way, the game might have been changed significantly

So your logic is to burn a timeout in a close game in hopes the refs will take a look at something you just complained to them about?? Yeah that’s Mensa level right there. You can demand anything you want but it’s up to the refs. Talking is literally all he could do. Pretending otherwise or telling us what he should have done is moronic. You just said you didn’t see on TV when he spoke to the refs. Yet we are suppose to listen to you on what he should have done?? You apparently don’t even know what all was done and you definitely don’t know what was said to the refs. Maybe sit this one out champ.
