Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

As I traveled home from OKC today, I was somewhat saddened to learn that some of you have evidently not been completely truthful to those of us that do not have the privilege of seeing the Horns in person. According to the experts on the radio, Robinson is just another guy at RB and no better than the backs at OSU or ISU. In addition, our entire roster is comparable only to the mid tiered teams of the conference such as Tech and Baylor. Guess there is not much hope for the upcoming season after all.?
Does "BigGameBoomer" have a radio show too?

With all due diligence and careful consideration, along with the kool-aid of Texas preseason success (and a couple of toddies). I predict that Texas will finish first or second at 10-2 (8-1). Losses to arky and WVa coupled with revenge wins against TCU, 0u and Iowa St puts Texas in the CCG.

After studing the roster chart looks like the OL might not be weakest spot in number of bodies. If the four super juniors go pro or do not return for some reason.

DBS will have fewer  playerson hand ( counting commits) than OL.11 to 13 both low for a five man positions.

Food for thought.

There is no way to really count anything since the UT website sucks so bad as to who is enrolled and on the roster.

jp100% correct. This is reason I made my own chart. A little infro here and some more there.

Still might be missing on one or two players. Looking to fall practice and new roster chart on Off. Horn site. Pretty sure on some positions OL and DB and others.

Since we're in the football desert and I'm bored, I put together a best ever by position for defense. Argue away because this was not easy. I struggled to put Nobis on this list.

DE - Tony Degrate

DT - Steve McMichael

DT - Kenneth Sims

DE - Kiki DeAyala

LB - Derrick Johnson

LB - Britt Hager

LB - Tommy Nobis

DB - Jerry Gray

DB - Quentin Jammer

DB - Nathan Vasher

DB - Earl Thomas

Any way you cut it, this is a NC defense.

Without a roster table or a complete roster, I'm kind of viewing the Off like this for now:

Offense 2-Deep
QB - Casey Thompson / Hudson Card
RB - Bijan Robinson / ROJO
WR - Joshua Moore / Dixon or Woodard
WR - Troy Omiere / Washington
WR - Jordan Whittington / Worthy
(Could easily see Worthy starting at any WR position in this offense)
TE - Cade Brewer / Whiley
LT - Christian Jones / Karic
LG - Jr. Angilau / Imade
C - Jake Majors / Ghirmai or Kerstetter
RG - Denzel Okafor / Hookfin
RT - Derek Kerstetter / T. Johnson

Tyler Johnson is the big mystery to me.  Could easily see him move inside, but he is so athletic.  Waiting for the light to go on with him. The OL looks pretty good for this year and possibly next if Angilau stays. If he leaves, I could see a lineup from left to right (with current roster only included) : Jones, Hookfin, Majors, Johnson, Karic.

I feel pretty good about this 2-deep.

I think your spot on. QB is really the only question mark regarding your depth chart.

?????....Honest to God....that should have been the easiest name to fill in.
I used stats for most of my picks. Nobis doesn't show on ANY of the records for UT. For me, he was in the NFL when I cut my football teeth. I put him in out of respect for the fans that came before me. That said, do you agree with my other two choices at LB?

Better hope Max Merril develops, because only taking 2 OL last year could leave a gaping hole in a few years.  I think Conner will be a multi year starter at either RT or G.

I do......

I am not aware what stats would be available about LB's in Nobis' day, but what they could not show is that every team that tried to prepare for Texas started with trying to figure out how to block, negate, or slow him down. None ever worked. He only had one gear and that was MAXINE!. His team mates hated to practice against him. He hurt em too bad. You mentioned the NFL.....There were many all pros that said they would rather go against  Butkis every week than face Nobis once a season. The onlt stat you might find on him is he made ist team AA all 3 years he played.....and also made AA twice as an offensive guard.....He was amazingly strong.

OL should not be our problem this year. We have depth and experience, plus some of these kids are very talented. Hopefully Flood can get them to improve even more.

QB is my primary concern. WR is my secondary concern, offensively.
