Per multiple reports, redshirt Freshman defensive tackle Chris Daniels has been granted his release and will transfer out of the program.

Another 2016 signee that has opted to leave the program. Expect the 2018 signing class to be a full boat before it is all said and done.

Well crap.  I'm not sure If I've seen him get any game action at all, but the lack of bodies along the D-Line is disturbing.  Actually, along both lines.  Need bodies, need quality bodies along this lines if this team wants to do anything.  Ronnie Perkins and Bobby Brown are desperately needed now.

We will still have Nelson, Ominehue, Roach, Wilbon, Graham, and Chisolm next year.  May not hurt to take another JUCO DL.  But yes we need B. Brown, Perkins for the year after.  Heck I wouldn't mind getting Daniel Carson as well.

Wasn't Daniels one of the reasons Herman went around talking about fat DT's? I've asked my couple of friends about him a few times before and they've always said he got himself fat at UT and can't do anything now.

Nonetheless, I wish him the best. He can make a new start for himself somewhere.

He got too big during his senior year. Needed that redshirt year to slim back down, but didn’t. With that said he did get his weight down during camp and looked good physically.

It’s the interior guys like Poona and Nelson that have me worried right now. Need more like them to clog up the interior.

Certainly I don’t know what goes on in the inner circles of UT football.  But, I do hope the coaches have had time to make assessments on current players going forward and have a strong feeling on the recruits they can sign and have started to nudge some of the dead-wood out the door…

Word is we didn't want to lose him. Same with some of the others. I wonder if Herman needs to rethink some of his mind games at this level.

Consider if you transfer out of Podunk U there's not a whole lot of places to go and play on TV. But if you transfer out of Texas, major programs will give you a look - like "hmm look how big and athletic he is, maybe it wasn't a good fit?"

These guys could be saying saying kiss my ass a lot faster than Herman is used to.

My guess is that Herman isn't handling things much different than Meyer or Saban handle things.

And if my guess is correct, I'm not bothered in the least by the way he handles things.

I really hate to lose Daniels. I really liked him out of HS and he seemed to take the "fat guy" comment to heart. He shed 35 pounds and looked like a beast in the pic he posted.

I'm sure there are other factors but he seemed to have "bought in" with the staff in regards to his conditioning.

what does if + guess = ?

I think we should let him become Saban and Meyer before we compare him to Saban and Meyer.
Not sure how to answer your question "what does if + guess =".

Wasn't comparing Herman to Saban or Meyer since we obviously cannot yet do that from "results" standpoint.

Just saying that if he thinks like Saban and Meyer and operates like Saban and Meyer, then I am very confident that he will bring Texas back to the level of a football power year in and year out, i.e. where we should be.

Possible scenario: Mr. Daniel didn't like being called out for being out of shape. He then used the UT system to get into shape. Said, "How ya like me now?  Buh-bye!"

If that's the case he will thank them later. He looked like a different kid.

– Team Note | Chris Daniels Transfer: As most of you know by now, Texas DT, Chris Daniels has elected to transfer.

Daniels will finish out the semester as a student at the University of Texas but will no longer participate in any football activities. With Fowler, Southall, Elliot and now Daniels transferring, I’m sure many of you are asking why.

First, I am told that Daniels was not a guy the staff wanted to lose. There are always a few guys on campus that a staff, in general, wouldn’t mind leaving to open up scholarship spots for guys that they feel can contribute. I’m told that was not the case with Daniels.

It sounds like this was just a case where Daniels felt he did enough to get a few snaps on the field and was instead relegated to non-travel/scout team.

Things can change quickly but based on what we’ve heard there will likely be some additional players looking to transfer at the end of the season.

It’ll be interesting to see now if Texas looks to go after someone in the JUCO ranks. Whether high school or JUCO, I do believe you’ll start to see some additional DT offers go out. – (Super K)

I say good luck to the kid and wish him all the success in the world.  I gotta wonder if he was just impatient and thought he deserved PT.  Only the coaching staff knows that.  He was a R-Fr so he had time to wait and compete for a starting spot next year.  It sucks because injuries and being out of shape put him behind other guys that have stepped up.  I gotta trust the evaluations of the coaching staff that there were just better guys in front of him that warranted the PT.  From a pure numbers standpoint this puts UT in a thin situation moving forward.  Maybe not this year, but next year and beyond if injuries come into play or Christmas decides to transfer as the rumors suggest.
