Big 12 Expansion Project

Just spitballing here but I believe it is no coincidence that we hear that new teams are asked how much being part of the BIG 12 is worth to them.

I read this as saying, 'Are you willing to pay a disproportionate share to help the BIG 12 buy out Texas' LHN deal with ESPN so that this conference can have a network?'

Further, I actually think adding 2-4 teams helps stabilize the BIG 12's future if Texas wants to leave after the GOR is expired. Win-win.
Maybe, but neither FOX nor ESPN has expressed an interest in partnering with the Big12 on a network. Does that change if LHN goes away? Perhaps

I just don't see UT being eager to leave. It's not in our nature to be second fiddle and that's what we'd be anywhere but the Big12.

I find your thoughts on this topic among the most reasonable on this website. In this thread you will find many fans that would rather burn down the BIG 12 and leave it. Bad karma. Texas belongs in the BIG 12. To me, the only other alternative would be as an independent. Well, that is not exactly true. The SEC fit for both UT and OU is obvious but there is some mental block amongst Longhorn fans that they might be immediately infected by some academic malady.

I trust Texas to be Texas wherever they go.

Independents, besides part-time ACC member Notre Dame, have a difficult time filling out their schedules.

I don't think UT sees that as a viable option. Agree the SEC is the best fit athletically, but yeah, our administration views them as a bunch of dumbass rednecks. Can you see UT getting its directives from Birmingham and being Bama's underling? I can't. Same story everywhere but the Big12.

The most surprising thing to me about the ACC Network deal is the extension of their GoR through 2036. There goes the NFL-like realignment we've been speculating about. Ain't gonna happen now. ESPN threw the ACC a bone to maintain the less costly status quo.

Adding up to four members enables the Big12 to max out their TV revenues short-term. The challenge now is negotiating the next contract after 2025. Who helps us move the dial commensurate with the B1G's new deal?

Once the BIG 12 solidifies its future through expansion and extension of the GOR, it appears we are on the road to doing the right thing: 8 team (minimum) playoff.

I think Texas go Independent schedule andthe Irish every year on championship Saturday

BYU

Colorado State

UH

Cincinnati

BIG 14

I love it.

As a former UT student and TCU grad let me express my sincerest gratitude to Texas for signing the GOR. Texas saved the conference. Thank you.

Stating the obvious. Everybody but a handful of UT fans seem to understand it. You CANNOT allow the SEC, or any other conference for that matter, to pluck Houston from the BIG 12 footprint. PERIOD. It is like TCU. You already (think you) control the recruiting there but you cannot take the chance. UH might make ATM a stepchild in Houston within 5 years if this thing goes through. It is purely a defensive and protective move.
BYU belongs in the PAC. Don't be completely surprised if UH uses the PAC to get their BIG 12 offer and BYU uses the BIG 12 to get their PAC offer.

If the BIG 12 grabs UH, Cincinnati, BYU and Colorado State they have put all the other conferences in a stalemate. They might not be traditional powers but they are about the best out there and they stop the other conferences from developing. BYU has a huge following. Houston will always have a following as long as they put a very good product on the field. Colorado State puts Colorado in play after the PAC deal runs out and Cincinnati allows a regional rival for West Virginia and gets the BIG 12 in the Midwest recruiting area. Has anybody thought that the BIG 12 could be the power conference if they play their cards right?

Nobody likes a suck-up, Embrey.  :P

I've said it before but UH and SMU add nothing to the conference.  I said that about TCU, too but whatever.  The Big 12 already controls TV markets in DFW and Houston.  They already recruit there effectively.  I don't care what Gov. Abbott says, expansion does not have to include UH.

We need to look east and alleviate some of the travel going to WVU.  Remember, we and all Big 12 schools have a lot of other teams besides football.  BYU is interesting and if they want to come we should take them...but looking into Cincinnati and Memphis (Fedex Univ.) or a Florida school makes more sense.

Agree the PAC would be smart to add BYU (and maybe UNLV, San Diego St, or Nevada), but maybe Utah has some type of agreement that they won't add in-state competition? I've also heard the Pac-12's secular leftists don't want any religious-affiliated schools. At least, that's the rumor.
