Under Armour to replace Nike at UT?

Just read on bleacher report that UA poised to make massive offer to UT to replace Nike. 10 yr $150 million is what was mentioned. Notre Dame is UA supplied, Nike supposedly not paying market value vs Adidas and UA per the article.

If we aren't getting market value, that is a crock!  Some people got it, some people ain't, and we definitely have it!  Go get 'em, Texas.

Under Armour is spending some cash.  ND signed a huge deal with them, they threw mad cash at KD and now Texas.

My guess is Nike matches without the blink of an eye.

When I think under Armour, I think Texas Tech and their crappy array of uniforms. Granted Texas will not go that route, but might cash in if the offer is not matched by Nike. Gotta think Nike would want to keep Texas, we sell a heck of a lot of merchandise. Does Nike actually make money off of our sales of Nike UT merchandise? Have never fully grasped the licensure deals with colleges by the apparel companies. Have peviously heard Nike is actually a marketing company vs sales (?), which makes me wonder how their profits are made.

If UT signs with Under Armor, there'll be an all black uniform (including helmet) by 2017 at the latest. Book it.

I suspect that UT will agree to some type of "alternate uniform" if UA is gonna pay $150MM over 10 years. It'll probably be in the contract. If so, I hope it doesn't get too wacky like their "Maryland Pride" or Texas Tech's God-awful "Lone Star Pride" uniforms.

I can live with an alternate uniform along the lines of UA's excellent Navy "Dress Whites" or even Notre Dame's "Shamrock Series" gear - provided it's only worn once or twice per season!

My thoughts as well.  We are probably the best equipped and outfitted school in the country.  Doubt Nike just lets UA waltz in and throw cash at the top brand w/o a fight.

I tend to agree,  If the deal pans out it is hard to think there will not be an alternate uni/change for the Horns in some manner.

I'm with ya...I just don't see Nike walking away from the Texas brand without a fight.

For those interested here's a link where you can look up the various licensing deals.

As you know, in the end, we were not really willing to listen to UA

Now it looks like UCLA has a bigger deal than both UT and Ohio St

Want to share a little tidbit from over on OBs:

I hate to be the a-hole here to the "shoulda negotiated, we shoulda got under armor" crowd, but one little detail of this deal caught my eye:

Clothing/Footwear/Equipment provided to University athletes:

UCLA(who has about 6-8 different football uniform combinations)-$7.4 million a year

Texas-(2 football uniform combinations)-$4.53 million a year.

Basically, UCLA gets $111 million in Under Armour Uniforms for athletes to wear. Texas gets $67.95 million in Nike uniforms for athletes to wear. So when you back out uniforms, which judging by the fire sale at the spring game, we are in no way hard up for, our deal is much better.

UCLA-$280 million deal. $169 million in real money actually paid to the school.

Texas-$250 million deal. $182.5 million in real money actually paid to the school.

+our own signature KD line of apparel

+4 yearly paid internships with Nike for 4 students(2 athletes, 2 non-athletes).

Gimme Nike all day. We're still getting the most money, UCLA can have the headlines.

Interesting when you break down the numbers.

Agree that receiving cash is always better than "free goods". I wonder what numbers the OB poster used when determining cost-of-goods?

How does he even have access to that proprietary UA information?

JB, I'm not sure, but I thought it was pretty interesting to see a breakdown like that.
