Cy Falls DT Du'Vonta Lampkin

This is what I heard from guys I talked to yesterday. They said there was a chance but a long way to go

I'm confused.  If he signed a Letter of Intent, unless he is released by UT, how can ou and lsu be destinations?  Did he not qualify academically for UT and he is confusing "university" with "junior college"?  Even though he signed a Letter of Intent, if he does not qualify academically to attend UT, he would still be eligible to go to ou or lsu if he met those respective academic requirements?

Inherent in this is him not qualifying at Texas but qualifying academically at other schools makes Texas look good.  :)

Wish Du'Vonta the best wherever he gets a chance to play and get an education.

If he does not qualify academically he would be released from his LOI
...and free to sign with anyone? No restrictions?

UT really needs to play up their higher academic standards if that's the case. Not that recruits like Du'Vonta care about academics. It almost sounds like he intentionally sabotaged his UT scholarship because Coach Rumph left.

If you can 'sabotage your grades and get out of LOI, then the NCAA needs to change things because the LOI is a worthless document if a kid can sign, then leave and go elsewhere without penalty.

"f you can 'sabotage your grades and get out of LOI, then the NCAA needs to change things.."

GBT... J.B. TexasEx... good points. had not thought of that.

High schools kids don't understand the intricate details of NCAA rules to the point of being able to intentionally sabotage their grades to get out of a LOI and still maintain eligibility at other D1 programs. It could have been his high school coach, Bob Stoops, maybe an "uncle," but someone coached him through the process of what he did. This kid was a marginal qualifier. No way in hell he did this on his own.

We'll, strike me down. Something we can agree on.

I'll take a step further and say that those coaches and handlers that like to operate on the fringe are anxiously waiting to see if this ploy is successful. They'll be all over it. The NCAA really needs to nip this in the bud.

I know DeLoss was not fond of turning in other programs but Patterson..... Weeeeee'll see. 😆

And before you even ask.... no I haven't.

I suspect that Patterson may have a different take on it...You are right, we will see.

Patterson strikes me as very smart, and more than a little cutting, when the need arises.

No restrictions, which is a slippery slope. Even if he never plays a down its important to fight this battle. I would do everything I can to admit him and then release him from his LOI if he wishes with restrictions against any in state and conference schools along with any schools on the schedule for the next 5 years.

I'm not sure what is the best policy when it comes to LOIs, but there are two sides of the coin. On one end, kids should be held to a final decision at some point, but when schools and/or coaches pull the rug out from under them as soon as they are signed, they should have a way out. For instance, with Lampkin, his position coach out and out lied about taking a position at Florida, so he should have had an avenue for being released if he wanted to at that point. For this specific rumored academic instance though, I feel like NCAA rules should be an automatic start to his athletic clock and non-participation in any athletic activities at the institution he chooses to go to for the first full academic year. Most schools would obviously opt to redshirt the player, but he still wouldn't be apart of the team which is a negative for the school and would essentially be a greyshirt focusing on academics first.

Mike, the outrage sounds strange coming from an Ag.  Forgive me, but the turnover y'all have had is almost epic.

Hook 'em!

Okay, Mom, if the media got it wrong, then why don't you tell us "the truth?" You have a Twitter account and obviously know how to use it... So, enlighten us.
I sent her a message and let her know if she wanted to clear it up I'd gladly give her a forum

I'm kinda with aggie Mike on this one. Unconscionable for CFB coaches to leave shortly after NSD.

Kid should have recourse in situations like this.
