Horns have to get back on track, as it won't get easier.  We have a TU game v A&M-CC then travel to Stillwater to take on Ok St.

Ok State has split with KSU FR/SA, and are currently tied with them 0-0 in the 5th in the rubber match.

Quotes from Augie:

"I think that all 3 games Nebraska played at a very high level.  They didn't make physical mistakes or mental mistakes.  They really played well.  No excuses intended.  I said at the beginning of the season 'how are we going to play with the returning players that took us to #3 in the nation last year?' It depends on how we come together as a team.  Opening day comes for us at Disch Falk Field on Tuesday."

The lost weekend in Lincoln. If I were the head coach, (and I know I don't have the experience of some on this board *cough GBT cough*)this would be the one that I would lose it on them. It's been my experience that you really only have 1 true explosion a year or it loses its effectiveness.

This is a good time because you get to yell and cuts but you are still in first place in conference at the end of it. It's the baseball equivalent of calling a time out when someone cuts a 15 point lead to 10 in basketball.

They're kids.  Scare 'em.

Exactly, they lolly gag the ball around the infield, they loly gag their way down to first, they lolly gag in and out of the dugout!

What does that make 'em Joeywa!?!

Excuses won't punch your ticket to Omaha, and they won't get you to the Championship game.  Augie knows how to get there, and he knows how to win it all, so they better shut up and listen.

Hook 'em!

The answer is in the dugout.  It's the players.  They had a bad weekend.  Happens.  Just need to wipe the slate clean and get back to business on Tuesday.

Almost everything Nebraska hit this weekend found a hole.  Just about everything Texas hit found a mitt.  NU played out of their minds defensively this weekend.  Their OF was like a huge net.  They played defense out there the way that Texas typically does.  The errors we had did not really cost us.

Offensively, our players probably need to address their mental approach at the plate.  Maybe take a pitch or two.  Let's try to mix in a few QAB's and not try to hit HRs every time up.  Swinging for the fences is not productive.  Get baserunners, move baserunners.  Basics.

I'm looking forward to the games next week to see what changes.  Tuesday will be a good gauge of this.

We had a very successful high school baseball coach that demanded players look at a first pitch curve ball.  I always suspected it was to get the players to better evaluate rather than just start swinging.  He enforced the rule.  He would pull a player that violated it more than once, and he didn't care how good the player was.

He was so successful, he could do it and there was no backlash.  State playoff run after state playoff run, followed by multiple State Championships.

Ok State beat KSU 4-1 today, to take the series 2-1.

You will be disappointed if you expect change. Our approach at the plate has been the same for several years. It sucks and it shows in series against good pitching like Nebraska has, or appears to have against our bats.

We have guys who swing at everything, and some who watch every good pitch go by and swing at crap in the dirt and at their ears. We also have guys who swing at the first pitch no matter what....Its ridiculous .

We need a hitting coach and we need Augie to leave the hitters to the hitting coach. ( there is a TRUE story behind that statement ).

Maybe we need an asshole T-ball umpire as a hitting coach.

Eabodgbt

and sot.

FINAL: Nebraska 6 – Texas 0

On Sunday, the Texas Longhorn baseball team picked up where they left off after Game 2. After failing to score in fifteen innings on Saturday, it was too little, too late on Sunday as the Horns only managed two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, falling to Nebraska 6-2.

Over the course of three games, the Huskers were dominant on the mound and defensively, while being effective in spots on offense. The mix proved to be way too much for Texas, as the Longhorns only managed to score three runs over 33 innings on the weekend.

In Game 3, the Huskers jumped on starting pitcher Chad Hollingsworth for two runs in the bottom of the first frame. With momentum firmly in their dugout, the Huskers scored four more runs in the home half of the third inning.

Chad Hollingsworth surrendered all six Nebraska runs, although one came after he left the game when Travis Duke allowed an inherited runner to score. Josh Sawyer, and Jon Malmin were effective in relief, combining for 4.2 scoreless frames on five hits and only one walk.

Collin Shaw’s two-run homerun over the right field fence was the lone bright spot for the Texas offense. Husker hurlers struck out six different batters, giving Nebraska a total of 33 punch-outs over the weekend.

On the three game series: â€œNebraska played at a high level. They didn’t make physical or mental mistakes. We ran into a team at the top of their game.”

On how the team will respond to the sweep: â€œOpening Day is Tuesday at Disch Falk Field. We hope the fans come out and support us.”

Thank goodness, for Augie, that the NCAA rewarded him with a pillow soft regional last year, and UH did the impossible and taking two in a row from LSU or Texas might be looking at 3/3 in the past 2 years.

Bear 19....Sounds like we need Java's HS coach......this season is going to give you an ulcer. We are not very good. We have above average pitching, a good defense, and our offense is weak because most of our players are dropping their hands and popping everything up. Part of that is due to trying to hit it out of the park too much.

One thing the announcers on BTN mentioned was our INFers footwork was suspect, relying on our arm strength instead of technique. ....these are INFers who have been here for a few years....Odd that Augie hasn't corrected that by now.....Maybe these guys aren't coachable.
