2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Previously read posts regarding Strong having options of bringing in former WR coach from Louisiville. Just wondering why that would be a good option now if he didn't bring him on initially with the move to Texas? Agree any of the above would be good options (Brewster, Lewis, Bouleware). Hopefully Brewster and his recruiting prowess will want to return. Did he grow up in Texas? Would be good if he wanted to return to his home state if that is the case. Didn't his son walk on at UT during the Brown era?
Brewster could sell ice to Eskimos.

If you are good, the NFL will find you. It doesn't matter what conference or team you play with. Look at the rosters and see guys from even the shitbirdiest schools. If you are a beast any power 5 or even lesser conference school will get you drafted round 1.

The NCAA limit issue: If we over sign and go over the 85 limit.....

The problem Charlie will have is [ will some of these guys we have transfer ] They don't seem to care about winning, and per Brown and Diggs even sitting the bench probably wouldn't bother them. Can you pull their 'ship without a reason other than "they suck" ? If I'm at Texas with all its props (facilities, atmosphere, etc.),  why would I want to transfer to Southeastern Poe Dunk U. if I don't have to ? I'll lift wts and work hard and sit the bench and get an education from THE University of Texas if I don't have a shot at the NFL ( which these guys don't )..... Why not ? Wouldn't you ? Think about it....

Larry Allen - Sonoma State.  I never heard of this school until Allen put them on the map.

Brewster is from NJ and played at Illinois. His only experience in this state is the 3-4 years he was at Texas. Regardless he is a great recruiter and judging from Nick O'leary and the TEs at texas while he was here, a damn good TE coach.

See....The NFL will find you if you are good. These kids and parents need to understand it ain't the school or conference. Its the coaches and YOUR ABILITIES AND TALENTS.

My odds are on Braxton Miller.  He's the only game changer I can think of.

Meyer suggests Texas because of his relationship with Strong. Strong's a great coach and even better person for Braxton to continue his football exploits.
Miller does seem to make good sense in terms of experience, ability, availability… and the relationship between Urban and Charlie.

But, echeese recently posted on the Conner Brewer Returning?? thread about another QB… Trent Hosick.

"Arizona Western JC- Hosick, a former Missouri quarterback (the Tigers do an excellent job evaluating that position) was committed to BYU before backing out and exploring his options a bit. We are in a dead period, so it’s hard for schools to reach out to him. Furthermore, he’s a mid-year transfer, so time is of the essence. So he will either end up sticking with BYU or heading to a mystery team that will be getting a heck of a dual-threat quarterback. He has three to play three."

I went to his HUDL video… http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4397492/highlights/180226386

  • Impressive vision of the whole field
  • Take charge presence
  • Great feel for the pocket and pressure
  • Quick release with a reasonably accurate arm
  • Often pump fakes to draw defenders off
  • Seems to be able to progress through different receiver options
  • Very illusive
  • Tough runner

Bottom line… the kid’s a playmaker… and can step in to compete right away.
Per Charlie Strong… “We got to get better on offense. There are no playmakers. You look at the quarterback position…â€

OK, I understand

This is from here

I have not seen this posted yet.  Interesting.

Strong had a meeting with the offensive coaches right after the Texas bowl. He was disgusted with the offense this year and that performance didn't help. He also knows that the OL was atrocious and it effected everything that the offense could and could not do. There was no blame towards any coaches, but he wants big changes for next year. He wants more competition at the QB spot like yesterday. Texas is looking at a few would be senior QBs from other programs that have contacted Texas. None of them were starters last year but all have played at the college level. He wants to open up the offense but knows he cannot do so without better QB play. Strong went to a few skill position players like Shipley and a few others and the feedback he got was that this offense didn't allow players to get into a groove and some felt when Texas was having success they should have pushed tempo a lot more than they did. Some will say that's on Watson (i know I have been critical of him too) but that was more on Swoopes and his inability to process things quickly. There were times this year when Swoopes even towards the end of the season was struggling to get plays off and make his checks. So Strong wants to simplify the offense a lot and implement some spread and tempo but they cannot do that until they get better at the QB spot.

As for recruiting, Texas is going to and is finishing Strong. It says a lot that Texas is a .500 team and can convince some top Florida talent to come this way. Charlie himself is a great recruiter but he also knows he needs a top closer in the Houston and East Texas areas as well as Dallas. They are looking into many options including a position on the team for a HS coach (although that's down the list). Yes, this will be a top 10 class and there is still a possible surprise come signing day.

I can't tell you who the QB is going to be because there are so many moving parts that's it's impossible to predict. Most will say Swoopes because he is the incumbent and that's probably fair. But the staff knows they need to get much better and one thing that's concerning for Watson and Strong is Swoopes lack of quickness and his tendency to get rattled by pressure. Heard has looked good with certain apsects of the offense but not others. Really Struggles under center with the timing passing game and that's one thing Strong is looking to change up to suit the strengths of each player. Heard was not ready last year. Simple as that. Texas has a few guys probably coming in later this month that could add depth and maybe even push for the starting job. I can tell you this, what we saw last year was not acceptable. Several young skill position players on offense have told Strong at end of year meetings that they were not happy with the offense this year. Part of that was scheme but nWatson has had very limited opportunities to do much of anything because the OL play was so bad. There's a reason Texas is taking this many OL with two of them being Juco.

I believe Charlie will turn this around and he's doing it the right way.

Some info on Johnson I posted earlier today

Gilbert Johnson, WR - (Homestead, FL)
Roughly the same height as Strickland but outweighs him (his height listed on 247 is incorrect I believe)

This is from IT --
How he fits at Texas: Johnson can really go up and get it and has great height and length for the position. He's pretty fluid and coordinated for a big receiver and has several absurdly acrobatic catches on his highlight reel. When he's playing at 210, he'll be a powerful menace similar to John Harris that could provide Texas a great possession receiver. - IB

Coach says: I like this kid. He's a big receiver who high-points the ball and goes and gets it at its highest point. Got some Larry Fitzgerald to his game. Seems to pluck the ball out of the air at times and went up and Moss’d a few DBs on tape. I like that he is able to break a tackle after the catch and is able to get some YAC. Not just a big receiver, he can do anything with the rock after he gets it. Get this kid qualified quickly.

How this affects Texas: The upside on Johnson is tremendous. Originally with the Class of 2014, Johnson signed with Georgia last February but couldn't qualify. The 6-foot-4 pass-catcher went the military school route and hopes to ink with a D-1 this signing period. Strong has gotten close Johnson, who won't decide until NSD. He's part of the Florida group looking to make Austin home next season. If he qualifies, he's a steal in every sense of the word. This kid is a talent. - JW

Interesting Mack naming TCU as the leader wowww amazing...I can understand that part and it make sense..

The impact the Florida Five will have on this team will be huge. We will finally get to see what a team full of Texas and Florida talent will be able to do. Now if Charlie will just embrace the mobile QB concept, this team will be dominant in short order.

speaking of QBs we just had a crystal ball go our way for Locksley...This is gonna get interesting as it unfolds..I dont wanna read too much into it just yet but I got a gut feeling  on this one
