2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Florida CB Davante Davis (6'3, 200named Texas and FSU as co-leaders

Scout shows him at 6'2, 185 but, either way, he has the size Strong is searching for

No. 27 CB nationally, the No. 43 player in the state, and the No. 295 player overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings

Interesting also is that FSU is in the mix for Holton Hill, Kris Boyd and Kendall Sheffield.

Also that he is teammates with Devonaire Clarington - they just won state together

Was committed to Syracuse at one point.

Also has offers from Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State and says he "may" still visit Florida, Georgia, and Miami

Like Juan said, there has to be 1 prof that has some passion for Texas football and is very good at making a Business school presentation. If this is true, this was a mistake by Texas. it happens, can't happen again. Now we know not to use that professor and need to find a better option.
IMO, it doesn't even need to be a McComb's professor selling recruits.

Why not a Texas Angel who is majoring in business?  We don't need some stiff who couldn't care less about football pitching to our recruits.

Big kid, and he'd look really good in a Strong/Bedford defense.  Even if we don't get some of these kids it has to be a good thing that Strong and his program are so highly thought of by these Florida recruits.

Malik it seems is just performing the "cap shuffle" and already knows where he's going.....not UT.

UT has a top 15 business school in the country (above programs like Emory, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, UCLA) - what exactly does he have to sell to Malik?  Walk in, slide the rankings across the table to Malik, drop the mic and walk out.  Why does he need to be sold on the Business School?  This isn't Alabama or the Ag College trying to sell academics.
My thoughts exactly. If Malik has to be "sold" on McCombs School of Business my guess he isn't really serious about getting a business degree, hasn't done his home work on the schools he's visiting, or is not seriously considering UT.

Some of you are speaking with a UT/business school bias. Sure we are ranked high but any student needs more than a ranking thrown up on the screen to be sold. I'm glad y'all arnt recruiting directors or even the people hiring anyone on your field. That attitude and you've already lost me.

Big time 4 Star recruit...

Tony Morrell of the South Carolina 247Sports is reporting that Texas target and current South Carolina defensive back commit Mark Fields will be taking official visits to both Texas and Clemson in the near future.

Fields has received visits from Brian Jean-Mary and Chris Rumph since the end of the regular season and the it is believed that the Longhorns feel confident in their current position with Fields.

Rumph has recruited Fields since his days at Alabama and the two have a very strong relationship.

Fields has been committed to South Carolina Since March.

Exactly. You're all speaking as grown adults who have had to make much more serious decisions than these kids at this age have. Stats don't speak to everyone. Why does Texas have to pitch their academics? Because every other school is going to. Want to turn a recruit off? Throw a piece of paper at him and drop your hypothetical mic. When you're tasked with aiding in a recruitment visit, you're selling a car. If that car gets 50 MPG, are you going to throw a post it note with that fact on it at the customer and drop the mic? Or are you going to gush about that 50 mpg and let them know how every other car is completely inadequate in comparison? You put on a show. You sell your heart out. Because these players are VIP clients who have the ability to take your used car lot and turn it into a franchise within the next four years.

Clearly, everyone here can speak to the prestige of the University of Texas. Yes, in most instances the University will sell itself. But in the instances in which it doesn't, you tie up your laces and get to work on pitching this school. Because it's your job.

Unfortunately your right. ... about 90 percent of the recruits could care less about the education part of the school.... because if they did would they want to get a Alabama degree¿¿¿ what I'm saying is that Yale and Harvard have a football program. ...

Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford is in the Houston area currently, and he will be stopping by Cy Ridge High School at some point today or tomorrow to check in on linebacker commit Cameron Townsend.Townsend committed to Texas in October over Oregon State and Oklahoma.

He is set to take his official visit to Texas in January.

Yea I can't see Malik flipping to us on this one. I really don't think it is anyone's fault at UT. Aggy and sumlin have developed a better relationship with him. He also is the type of person that wants a challenge. Right now I can't think of a bigger challenge than changing the perception of the aggy defense, which he was been quoted as saying he wants to do that. IMO it's best for us all to relax and worry about the ones we are getting because we know those kids are going to get developed into good/great football players.

I'm not worried about any of these kids until they sign their LOIs

More from Ryan Newsome

https://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1713525

"I guess it's really depending on, if we go to state, that will determine a lot," Newsome said. " I'll probably narrow after these in-home home visits are over. If we do go to state, probably announce my top four after that's over."

Newsome, one of the most highly sought after receivers in the country, will have a busy week of coaches stopping by his house. Ole Miss is coming in on Monday. UCLA is expected to bring a large contingent of coaches on Wednesday. Either Oklahoma or Tennessee will be in on Thursday, and Texas is expected to make another in-home visit on Sunday.

Those visits will be key, Newsome said.

"I'm definitely blessed to be in the position I'm in, to have these schools recruiting me. That's why the in-home visits are so critical. I want to be able to pick the coaches' brains, be able to look you in the eye, see what you're all about," Newsome said. "All the schools I'm dealing with are legit people - that's why I've narrowed it down to these five. I could see myself playing for any of these coaches."

* * * *

"It was a really good visit. I had a great host, J-Gray (Jonathan Gray). I've been knowing him since I was a kid. Getting to be around him, spend some time with him was really cool," Newsome said. "The visit was great. Coach (Charlie) Strong, he sat down with me and my family, talked about a lot of stuff. He told me they want and need me at UT. I got to see practice too. That was cool to see.

"They were selling the Longhorn Network, how I'm pretty well set after college. That's what I want to do, and the Longhorn Network is directly affiliated with ESPN. I would have my foot in the door with a lot of important people. That's one thing I wanted to see, and they definitely showcased that to me over the weekend."

Texas hosted five other prospects on official last weekend, including top uncommitted linebackers Malik Jefferson and Darrin Kirkland Jr. Newsome spent quite a bit of time with both players.

"Malik is a smart guy. He's going to do what's best for him. So is Darrin. We're all similar. I think that's what helped us. We really clicked together. If it works out, it would be cool to play with each other. If not, we'll all do what's best for us.

Wherever he winds up, Newsome knows it will be a tough task settling on one school. All the schools on his list will draw strong consideration, and many of them have similar characteristics.

"The alumni support is really strong in all those schools. That's why it's kind of tough to decipher one from the other," Newsome said. "But that's the beauty of it. I have to pray about it, see where God takes me."
Hook 'em, Ryan.

Looks like one more spot for a spring commit just opened up:

Horns247 has learned that Jamile Johnson (South Oak Cliff) will not be a spring enrollee at Texas.Bruce Chambers stopped by South Oak Cliff on Tuesday to check on Johnson and fellow Texas commit Jordan Stevenson as well as receiver prospect JF Thomas, who also holds a Texas offer.

**

Texas assistants are expected by Manvel High School in Houston on Wednesday to see several 2016 prospects including receiver commit Reggie Hemphill.

Also at Manvel is five-star safety Deontay Anderson, linebacker Jordan Carmouche, offensive lineman Austin Myers, and several other prospect.

Texas assistant coach Tommie Robinson was by the high school last week as well.

WR Gilbert Johnson (Homestead, FLA) tweeting this out today

Looks like that the report he is now up to 6'5 may be correct? (yes, he plays BBall too)

He is still committed to Georgia as of now, but clearly is thinking about UT alot (he has done this before)

247's Ryan Bartow thinks he will flip

I am a fan of tall, basketball-player-WRs and frequently wished we had one as an option over Marcus Johnson this season.

Looking good for a talented LB from OOS:

Horns247 has learned that Texas head coach Charlie Strong will be making an in-home visit with four-star linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) on Monday evening along with Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford. Assistant coach Brian Jean-Mary will also be in attendance.

Kirkland took an official visit to Texas just last weekend and after what was reported to be a great visit for the out-of-state prospect, he announced on his Twitter account that he would be shutting down the process to the media and would make his decision in January.

The successful visit drastically improved the chances for Texas to land the talented prospect and his close relationship with Texas receiver prospect Ryan Newsome (Aledo) could play a big role moving into the final months of his recruitment.

Kirkland (6-2, 235) is the No. 177-ranked prospect nationally according to 247Sports Composite. Tennessee, Michigan, Ole Miss, Penn State and Notre Dame each have received votes on Kirkland's Crystal Ball.
