Short article formalizing a couple things -- "Collins, Overstreet Given Releases From Texas Scholarships"

http://texas.247sports.com/Bolt/Collins-Overstreet-given-releases-from-Texas-scholarships-29974509

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Chevoski Collins and Jalen Overstreet have been released from their scholarships at the University of Texas.

Collins, a redshirt freshman safety, and Overstreet, a sophomore running back, were among four players dismissed from the program last week, sources told Horns247. One of the four, running back Joe Bergeron, has been given his unconditional release to transfer anywhere of his choosing for his senior season.

The fourth player dismissed, senior safety Josh Turner, has been allowed back on the team after a Tuesday night meeting with head coach Charlie Strong, a source told Horns247 on Wendesday. Turner is back but with "severe restrictions" according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

A source close to the program told Horns247 that no other suspensions had occurred. Three players mentioned in published reports as being subject to suspension are senior offensive tackle Desmond Harrison, junior offensive tackle Kennedy Estelle and junior all-purpose back Daje Johnson. However, a source told Horns247 earlier this week that all three players have met with Strong and "are on the same page".

Junior wide receiver Kendall Sanders and redshirt freshman wide receiver Montrel Meander remain on indefinite suspension after being arrested and charged with felony sexual assault last week.

Sigh of relief that Daje, Estelle, and Harrison won't be suspended!

IDK who the hell was gonna play OT for us if those big boys aren't in the line-up!  Depth on the OL is bad enough as it is.

Maybe Ron Mckelvey has some eligibility left?

Thought I was pretty clear you were putting words in my mouth .. . .you were not "discussing facts" but you were goal post moving. . . trying to cover .. . .I never said there was no letter, simply not one from the staff.

P.S. it was Travis Haney who wrote the original hit piece on the San Angelo clinic. Haney writes for ESPN. Clay Travis writes for Fox.

True, but in our defense it's easy to get these d-bags mixed up.

Clay is the SEC lapdog

Haney is the OU dickweed

Cheese,

You and Mark need to take this conversation offline because HS is not going to be a media for you two's disagreement.

Kevin wrote me today and clarified what happened. I'll just cut and paste below.

"It was actually the DC at SAC that started the issue.  I never saw the letter or the alleged email, but he started the deal with Charlie. "

Past that, what echeese chooses to think doesn't affect me.

I've met and talked to Kevin at several Longhorn pre-season events, though it has been years since I last saw him.  When I heard that he was going to begin writing about Longhorn football, I honestly did not know how he was going to do it precisely because he is such an avid fan.  Fortunately, with the evolution of internet sports boards, it is no longer necessary for writers to be objective observers.

That is simply my take from the 'for what it's worth department'.

Hook 'em!

Boys, may I interject a little something on the so called validity of "inside info"?

Some of you know that I am close friends with a UT BMD or two.  As such, I have been occasionally privy to casual gossip of pertinent goings on at our beloved university.  Naturally, as a UT grad and Bellmont outsider, I have vested and keen interest on what are the latest "rumors" about UT.  Generally the info I get has been filtered and obscured as it has winnowed its way down the pipeline - and everyone should understand that is the way of ALL inside info.

Lets build an imaginary scenario, shall we?  Remember, what I say below is wholly and totally fabricated and not to be construed in any shape, form or fashion as remotely related to the truth.

Okay, lets say Patterson has decided to let Plonsky go.  He e-mails this decision to Powers who, in turn, informs the legal dept. and HR with written memos that are CC'd to pertinent board members.  In his memo he relates Pattersons decision along with his own recommendation of giving Plonsky the opportunity to resign with honor, be re-assigned or fired.  All addressees RSVP with either endorsements or their own recommendations, including bonus and buyout figures gleaned from the offices of the treasury and their personal relationship with Plonsky. Powell assimilates the RSVP's and has a meeting with Patterson and a course of action is decided upon.  It has been decided that Plonsky will be given the choice to resign on her own or accept reassignment.

Now, consider all the clerks, secretaries, regents and HR and legal dept. employees that have seen or heard snippets of what is transpiring.  What they have heard in various means of communications is that Plonsky is going to be fired, is resigning or reassigned.  All of the aforementioned people are now candidates for leaks to the press, blogs OR to my very own BMD's.   And the people that are leaking the Plonsky news are also skewing the truth with their own opinions of why and how.

Additionally, there can become a collective of people that combine this leaked news and opinions to finalize what is being reported as "truth".  (By-the-way, the so called IT Big cigar is one of these collectives).

So we - the poster - has now heard from one source that Plonsky is going to be fired - from another, reassigned and from another, asked to resign.

So what is the truth?  The truth is - it is all true and it is all a lie.

And, that, my friends, is how "inside info" is served to you.

I have repeatedly railed against the IT Big Cigar as being a cancer on the program. When any one individual takes it upon themselves to release information gleaned from being in a position of trust, there is a problem. Not every operating detail needs to be publicly discussed. Documents are available via open records requests. When individuals take it upon themselves to release information they alone have decided should be made public, heads need to roll. People who choose to do such things or people who encourage others to act in such a way are not friends of the program. It is up to the leadership of the program to manage the flow of information, not people who violate their position of trust to promote their individual agenda.

But see, Duke, that is exactly my point.  WHO is or are the Big Cigar?  He, or they, can be nothing more than a file clerk or an equipment manager - or both, or more.  Even the CIA has a problem sealing leaks and I can assure you Texas will never accomplish this.  It is simply not that professional at being clandestine.

What you are seeing is the internet.  It's the new wave of information, mis-information and plants.  Who is to know which is which and what is what?

Some goober overheard someone else opining that one of the players was stealing.  He translates this opinion as a fact and a blog reporter hears it 5th hand, wants desperately to have a scoop and blurts it out as the truth.

And we now have an internet melt down.

Just remember, if it sounds unrealistic - it probably is.

I don't know for certain, but I have a good idea of who the Big Cigar is. I do know who the primary FOB is. The idea of either being a file clerk or equipment manager is funny.

IMO, the internet bloggers like JS and McPhaul who use these contacts are often times used in inter-BMD politics. That doesn't suggest that what they say is false, but certain info leaked here and there can change a situation. Just like it did last fall.

JS does have a contact on the FB team and indeed, that may be an equipment manager. But keep in mind, is there anyone on this board who has seen more of this team, heard more in the locker room than an equipment manager?

The "Insider" has had a great impact on the internet.

1. It almost made some staff at OB irrelevant. To the point that some insiders were asked to leave as the crowd gravitated to their stuff moreso than staff stuff.

2. JS went from doing this part time as a hobby to becoming a featured attraction and part owner of a revenue based website.

3. McPhaul landed here at Hornsports and provides a very popular CrossFire column that people are upset about if it's not posted on time. I came here because McPhaul came here and requested my advertising on his posts because I know that some of his posts are going to get a BUNCH of looks (clicks).

So while everything Randolph Duke said is true and well said - there is another side of this coin and that's the business of following Texas athletics. As fans, we've come a long way from the days of getting a yearly recruiting magazine to HornFans to the university.com to what we have today with an abundance of websites that offer fans a variety of ways of keeping up with THE BEST DAMNED FOOTBALL TEAM TO EVER GRACE PLANET EARTH. :)

Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner! Pay sites have to make money. They do that by marketing an "interesting" product or service. And one of the tools to do that is to provide information from so-called "insiders". What you have to remember is that these "insiders" have an agenda and their information will reflect that agenda. Doesn't matter who it is. Also if you read this information carefully enough you usually, but not always, will find two things about it. First, that the information is presented in a way that the insider can't be wrong in case what the insider says doesn't pan out. Second, it is actually quite vague.

I've been reading numerous sites and boards over the past several years and this is what I have observed. But as I always say, just because you agree with me doesn't mean you are wise and just because you disagree with me doesn't mean you are stupid.

My bad. . .

It's hard to keep the D Bags straight these days. . .

DM asked it be dropped. .. . . .I will honor that. . . ..

JimR-

Quite frankly, I agree.  If I wanted actual, safe, factual news then I would wait for it to come out in print a week from now.  This site used to provide cutting edge insight.  Today there seems to be too much a concern to confirm, confirm, and confirm again.  That is NOT why people came to this site initially.  They came here to discuss UT Sports, the rumors, what they were hearing, etc.  Whether things went down the way people had predicted on this site or not (Saban), that is what made this site exciting.  It was hearing the on-goings behind the scenes thru the back channels that created interest.  Stuff that was being deleted off of the other sites because it was "hitting too close to home."

Today I feel this site has become a Bobby Burton 247 or OB wanna be carrying the UT Athletic Dept's agenda out so that HornSports MAY get access to the program in the future.  In other words, we now have a site that is having messages being edited (much like our National media and this current administration!). In the meantime, by adapting this conservative, slow, methodical approach to put anything out there that MAY be perceived as controversial HornSports is being scooped by OB and other sites.

Damn shame.

SG

sg, please provide your most intimate insight in regards to UT facility upgrades!  all of the other site's are hereby going crazy.. as per yesterday's aTm revealing of their ultra modern, magnificent, state of the art locker palace.  not to patronize you, but whatever your take is... i think that i shall go with it.  there are all sorts of dollar amounts being thrown across the OB regarding proposed new UT facilities.  it seems to be a train wreck.  just what in the hell was deloss doing...

HornSports is being scooped by OB and other sites.
Damn shame.

By "scooped", do you mean reporting that Turner was confirmed being dismissed because of stealing?  And, as it turned out, that was just a BS rumor that was totally false.

I don't know, SG, all I saw a few months ago was a lemming rush to IT by a plethoria of ex-OB members that were sick of that site.  I think the theme song was the mods were actually calling out members because they didn't like their posts - as they disagreed with the mods. In fact, one of the mods was actually using false aliases for posts to stir the membership and create interest.  He even admitted it, however incredible it seems.  No way would I pay money to a site that actually scammed its membership like this.

Furthermore, my understanding was that YOU were one of those providing "inside info" while you were at OB.  Are you doing so here?  If not, why not?

Besides, we have already hashed and re-hashed the true meaning of "inside info" anyway.  Do you disagree?

It's true this site will parrot a lot from other sites, but I don't have a problem with it because not everyone has a membership on those other sites.
