The purge part 2

JimR-

Quite frankly, I agree.  If I wanted actual, safe, factual news then I would wait for it to come out in print a week from now.  This site used to provide cutting edge insight.  Today there seems to be too much a concern to confirm, confirm, and confirm again.  That is NOT why people came to this site initially.  They came here to discuss UT Sports, the rumors, what they were hearing, etc.  Whether things went down the way people had predicted on this site or not (Saban), that is what made this site exciting.  It was hearing the on-goings behind the scenes thru the back channels that created interest.  Stuff that was being deleted off of the other sites because it was "hitting too close to home."

Today I feel this site has become a Bobby Burton 247 or OB wanna be carrying the UT Athletic Dept's agenda out so that HornSports MAY get access to the program in the future.  In other words, we now have a site that is having messages being edited (much like our National media and this current administration!). In the meantime, by adapting this conservative, slow, methodical approach to put anything out there that MAY be perceived as controversial HornSports is being scooped by OB and other sites.

Damn shame.

well, I could not disagree more. I came here because I like Darrell, and I wanted to support what he is doing. Equally important, I wanted to get away from the meanness that is OB where I was called everything but a terrorist because DeLoss is my friend. I could not care less about "excitement" on message boards, and I find that concept more than mildly amusing. Rumors are interesting and fun, and I hope HS will always post them, but I do not live and die for them, and I take all of it with a grain of salt. College athletics are merely students playing games, and there will be a lot more of them next year and the next and the.... You get the picture, or perhaps you don't and never will.

As long as Darrell and Matt are here, so will I be. This place may never win the Pulitzer, but it provides a friendly, welcoming place for nice people to discuss UT sports with civility and good humor. That is all I want, and I found it here.

A site has to be pretty damned good that has Blair Cherrys' son posting on it.

Sorry you feel this way.

I've never gotten THAT feeling from this site.

i'm not even sure what qualifies as a 'scoop' in the internet age. seems like a lot of guys reporting news 'first' are also the first to have  to backpedal or issue retractions.

at the risk of outing myself as a closet curmudeon, i agree with JimR's take above. I don't personally know Mcphaul, Cotcher et al, but they seem to be good guys trying to run a civil site. and even when every once in a while, the members here (myself included)  get a little mouthy, it never has the monkees-flinging-feces feel OB had when i was a member there.

We have a couple of sites that are so concerned with "cutting edge" they run with whatever bullcrap is on sale that day . .. factually?   screw that. . . if it works for the National Enquirer. . it will work for me .. . .if I wanted that type of sensationalist/gossip driven nonsense, I'd have never left 2 other sites.

And since my commentary appears to have spurred this. . . . I make no bones I thought many of the so called "insiders" were full of it . .more about advancing themselves. . .but forgive me if I perfer factual and reality over the opinion is fact approach.

As for news, I have no doubt that as this site grows it might  compete with 24/7 but there isn't a site on the net that comes close to those guys for news today. . .

Just one guy's take but I am here for the community.    One thing I like is this place engages in real discourse and real discussion. . .not surprising that half the posters from our private site are here.   Hope to grow that number. . .

Come football season, I'll be working to bring others here . .not at the expense of other sites but in addition . ..

Personally, I don't mind a little gossip or rumors as long as the blogger positions the news as such.

Gives us all something to talk about.

I am a member of IT and 247, both.  I will never join OB because of one of the owners duplicity and admitted scamming.  IT actually had a purge of, sorts, to rid itself of some old timers that thought they actually owned the site.  We will see if this sustains - right now, it's not looking good.  I'm rather new to 247, but the mods appear to be only concerned with all news Longhorns - and I like that.

This site is civil enough for women to venture their posts without feeling like they will be bullied.

How can you not like this?

Agree this site allows a rookie poster to speak and engage in conversation with experience posters and not belittled....

Curmudeon? Is that like an old, crotchety comedian?

Thanks, but I am not any more knowledgeable than most here, and less so than some. As an old timer, I have seen a lot of change. Have known an awful lot of the folks involved with Texas athletics over the years, but have never attempted to be an "insider."

Most of the real insiders that I have known are long gone, and mostly dead. Sad, but time marches on.

All you get from me is opinion. And I can be wrong sometimes. ;)

beautifully articulated, as per a scholar and a gentlemen.  i concur completely.

I just want to say that I think it's really, really stellar of you guys to be dolling out back slaps to various members for being the reasons why you're here.

Even though we all know you came for the landscape threads, I'll just go along with all of this.
