On New Year’s, the Texas Longhorns will play Arizona State in the second round of the College Football Playoff. Today, our Devon Messinger and Dylan DeRaud discuss their scouting report of the Sun Devils in the YouTube video above.
DeRaud’s Scouting Report of the Arizona State Offense:
Arizona State’s offense relies heavily on running back Cameron Skattebo, who is the centerpiece of their game plan with his tackle breaking and pass catching ability. The running game is their main focus, helping set up quarterback Sam Leavitt to run an efficient passing attack. With top wide receiver Jordyn Tyson out, players like Xavier Guillory and tight end Chamon Metayer have stepped up, but the offense still depends on Skattebo to drive their success. Texas will need to be ready for a tough, run-heavy game plan that will test the physicality of the Longhorns front seven.
Messinger’s Scouting Report of the Arizona State Defense:
Defensively, the Sun Devils are led by junior safety Myles “Ghost” Rowser, who has a team-high 93 tackles. Behind Roswer, is Texas transfer Xavian Alford, who has had a solid season with 82 tackles. Meanwhile, on the defensive line, Clayton Smith and Elijah O’Neal both have four sacks on the year.
Overall, Arizona State’s defense has been okay. The unit only allows 21.3 points per game, but has been far from flashy. However, the Texas offense has been inconsistent this season, leaving an opportunity for the Sun Devils on Wednesday.
