Houston MacArthur defensive end Isaiah Chambers is one of the most highly sought after prospects in Texas. The number thirteen prospect on the HornSports Top 50 has accumulated offers from Baylor, Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, and Texas A&M among numerous others.
Chambers recently weighed in at 6’4â€, 255 pounds, and has been pretty busy fielding phone calls from programs all over the nation. We caught up with the state’s top-ranked strong side end to talk recruiting and all that implies.
“Baylor, TCU, Arizona State, Washington, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Baylor are talking to me a lot†said Chambers when asked what schools he has been in contact recently. While he is hearing from a multitude of programs, one stood out among the schools recruiting him the hardest. “I’d probably say TCU is recruiting me the mostâ€.
Chambers says he didn’t have a favorite school growing up and is currently wide open with an interest in everybody. While Chambers hasn’t narrowed down his list of schools he does have an idea about what he’s looking for in a potential match, saying, “I’d say atmosphere, education, and someone who can help me get to the leagueâ€. Chambers says he’d like to major in criminal justice and work somewhere in the law enforcement field.
The Longhorns are a program that could deliver a total package of those aspects, but Chambers said he has not heard much from Texas, “One of the coaches came by a while back (Les Koenning), but I really haven’t heard much from them.”
Chambers was not aware that Koenning is no longer at Texas or that the Longhorns had hired Brick Haley to be the new defensive line coach. Chambers did say he would have an interest in Texas if the Longhorns were to pick things up in his recruitment.
Chambers is already physically developed for a junior in high school, and models his game after a pair of defensive ends that have plied their craft in his home city of Houston. “I’d say Jadeveon Clowney and Mario Williams,†Chambers said when asked who he plays like. Chambers continued, “I’m strong against the run, but I can be explosive and definitely get after the quarterback too.â€
What’s next for the talented defender? Chambers has upcoming visits set for Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU, and Texas A&M. He will also be competing in ‘The Opening’ regional camp in DFW next weekend as well as the ‘Rivals Camp Series’. While Texas could definitely be a player in his recruitment should they choose to get involved, it’s clear that Chambers is getting attention from elsewhere as he prepares to enter his senior season.
