https://www.hornsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/HSRU.jpgTexas nabbed a 2015 pledge from former TCU commit Johnny Shaw last weekend after the  final minicamp of the summer wrapped up, but the Horned Frog gouging didn’t stop with Shaw.  The day after attending the same minicamp, Emmanuel Porter pulled his commitment from Gary Patterson and TCU, and four days later told the Longhorns “yes.”  Porter told the Texas coaches on Friday that he would play football in Austin, but needed more time to think through his decision with his family before making the UT commitment firm.  The commitment “firmed up” on Saturday.  Porter, a 6-4, 190 lb. wide receiver from Dallas Lincoln High School joins an almost full 2014 class that has a nice collection of wide receivers in it.  Texas added 6-5,  205 lb wide receiver Garrett Gray, 6-4, 219 lb. wide-out Dorian Leonard and now Porter – in a span of a mere 5 days.  Darrell Wyatt is on a rampage, folks.

Porter is a 3-star prospect ranked #67 on the LSR Top 100 for 2014 and has the size, speed and hands the Longhorns need in the receiving corp.  He made a name for himself on the basketball court at Lincoln High School and on the AAU basketball circuit but caught the attention of college football scouts because of his speed.  Porter plays both basketball and football  in high school but it appears football is his sport of choice at the collegiate level.

Gray, Leonard and Porter all stand at 6-4 or taller and will provide the UT quarterbacks with nice targets next season and beyond.  Abilene Cooper’s Lorenzo Joe and Sharpstown’s Roderick Bernard are the other two receivers Texas has recruited in the class.  Joe has remained committed to Texas since August of last year, while Bernard pledged in January 2013.

We mentioned Porter ain’t too shabby at hoops either.  Rick Barnes, are you watching?  Hook’Em.
