To begin, we have to start at the quarterback position. At the helm, Kansas State transfer, Will Howard, has been Ohio State’s leader under center. This season, the Buckeyes have averaged 36.4 points per game, and Howard has been a big reason why. Through 14 games, Howard has passed for 3,490 yards and has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 34-9.

At wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith has already proven to be one of the best receivers in the nation as a freshman. In fact, Smith has tallied a whopping 1,224 yards and 14 touchdowns on 70 receptions. Along with Smith, Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate have added additional firepower to an already potent offense.

In the running game, TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins have been a two-headed monster for the Buckeyes, amassing a combined 1,849 yards and 20 touchdowns. Helping the running game has been the Ohio State offensive line. Currently, the O-Line has been a nasty bunch, as evidenced by the fact that they also allow less than once sack per match in the passing game.

DeRaud’s Scouting Report of the Ohio State Defense:

On the other side of the ball, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ defense has been phenomenal. This year, the Buckeyes are only giving up 12.1 points and 244.6 yards per game. Furthermore, their focus has been stopping the run and relying on their talented secondary to hold up in man coverage on the outside.

Moreover, while their 3-high safety look may invite teams to run, Ohio State’s defensive front, led by Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimaloau, along with linebacker Cody Simon, quickly shut downs the trenches. Meanwhile, All-American safety Caleb Downs anchors the secondary with his ability to seemingly be in on every play. This defense has been statistically the best in the country and will force the Longhorns to beat them passing the football.
