The Texas Longhorns (11-1, 7-1) will play for their first Southeastern Conference Championship today as they face the Georgia Bulldogs (10-2, 6-2) in Atlanta. Georgia got the better of the Longhorns at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in October, but Steve Sarkisian’s team has reeled off five straight wins since that loss.
The Bulldogs are looking to claim their second SEC Championship in three years with a win today, but they will have to get past the nation’s third-ranked defense and 14th ranked offense in order to do so.
The Longhorns are in the College Football Playoff regardless of today’s outcome, but an SEC Championship in their inaugural season would be a nice feather in the program’s cap.
It is high stakes football at Mercedes-Benz Stadium today, with kickoff coming at 3:00 pm CST.
