The Georgia Bulldogs will play for their 15th Southeastern Conference Championship on Saturday, while the Texas Longhorns will play for their first in their first season in the SEC.

Kirby Smart’s team has played in six of the last seven SEC Championship games, but has managed just a 2-4 record in those contests.

While an appearance by Georgia in Atlanta in December is commonplace, the data and analytics show that most of the country is rooting for the Texas Longhorns in this year’s matchup.

The team over at betonline.ag used trends software and the Twitter (X) API to develop a map of the United States which shows team preference by state for the SEC Championship (via geotagged tweets).

The breakdown by states is as follows (see map below for specific state preference):

Texas Longhorns – 29 states

Georgia Bulldogs – 21 states

Georgia defeated Texas 30-15 in Austin on October 19 but the Longhorns have won five straight since the loss to the Bulldogs.  Georgia enters the SEC Championship game with two losses, to Alabama and Ole Miss.

The Longhorns are favored by 2.5 points at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, with kickoff coming at 3:00 pm CST.
