On Thursday, Sarkisian named redshirt freshman Arch Manning the game’s starting quarterback. Manning replaced Quinn Ewers in the second quarter last week against UTSA, after Ewers was forced to the sideline following an abdomen injury. In the 56-7 win over the Roadrunners Manning threw four touchdown passes and rushed for a 67-yard touchdown. True freshman Trey Owens will serve as the backup quarterback followed by senior Cole Lourd as third-string.
The Longhorns and Warhawks have met twice before – both times in Austin. Texas holds a 2-0 record against UL-Monroe including a 52-10 victory in their last meeting (2022). The game will serve as the Warhawks’ first game in program history against an Associated Press No. 1 ranked team.
