Former University of Texas linebacker and current ESPN analyst Sam Acho enjoyed a successful career on the 40 Acres and in the National Football League. Acho, a native of Dallas, Texas, played in 50 career games and started in 26 of them at Texas under former head coach Mack Brown. He was a two-time Academic All-American and three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and won the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2010, which is awarded to the nation’s top football student-athlete. Additionally he won the 2010 Wuerffel Trophy, which recognizes all-around excellence in athletic, academic and community achievement.

Acho is not only known for his presence and leadership on the football field, but equally for his character and community contributions off it. He was selected to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team in 2010 and is in his second year of working with the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Our Marc Henry had an opportunity to catch up with Acho at SEC Media Days in Dallas to talk about the Allstate Good Works Team’s partnership with the Wuerfell Trophy, 2024 Good Works nominee and Longhorns Offensive Lineman Hayden Conner, and the importance of “giving back” off the gridiron.
